GCM's Ask the Experts

Anthony Anderson, actor

He’s been in “Scary Movies” (3 and 4), he’s acted across from an animated kangaroo (“Kangaroo Jack”) and now he’s in a Martin Scorsese movie with Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Departed”).

Anyone who can successfully go from working with an animated kangaroo to working with Martin Scorsese must be a talented actor.

Anthony Anderson first gained attention by playing the role of the unlikely son of Jim Carey in “Me, Myself and Irene.” A regular on “Law & Order” and “Ally McBeal,” Anderson received critical acclaim for his role in “Hustle and Flow.”

Anderson first started playing golf 10 years ago when his father-in-law took him to a driving range. Since then, the actor/comedian — not afraid to don a kilt while playing — has become a golf nut.

“I play in the sunshine, I play in the rain, I play in the snow,” Anderson says. “I’m addicted to it. It’s bad for me.”

— Seth Jones, senior associate editor

"Golfers (understand the need for superintendents). Golfers understand it, but just the regular layman, I don’t think they do. And if they did, they would be surprised at what these men and women do, and how they’re able to create. It’s more than just cutting grass and trimming trees, you have to keep the course up. It’s about manicuring and maturing and just creating things. It makes the game a whole lot of fun and better for us.

What they do is a great job. Because of them, we’re able to come out here and enjoy ourselves on beautiful courses."

— Anthony Anderson
