The new Hustler Flex Seat suspension from Hustler Turf Equipment is ergonomically designed with shock-absorbing action. The company says the seat smooths out bumps for greater operator comfort. The Flex Seat also can be used with Flex Forks for a smoother ride. The product also minimizes back slap and reduces stresses and strain on operators’ lower backs. Caterpillar introduces its 450E backhoe loader, featuring a 17-foot trenching depth and 124 net horsepower. A new extendible stick pushes the machine’s digging depth to 21 feet 4 inches. A general purpose loader bucket measures 1.75 cubic yards of capacity. Other features include a variable displacement piston pump, load-sensing hydraulics, flow-sharing hydraulic valves and a 10 percent increase in backhoe and swing forces via enhanced hydraulics and new backhoe geometry, the company says. The 450E features a new cab with curved glass and contoured fenders for added serviceability and visibility. A low hood increases sight lines to the loader while the hood tilts for easy access. Other new amenities are a narrowed front dash, foot-operated tilt steering, an in-cab control pattern changer and an air conditioning system that produces 20 percent more airflow. John Deere has added three new excavators to its D-Series line. The 160D LC, 200D LC and 225D LC feature such improvements as faster hydraulics, a redesigned cab, undercarriage enhancements and a new cooling system. The smallest machine, the 160D LC, offers an additional 4,500 pounds of operating weight and added horsepower, yet still is sized to fit on a tag trailer, the company says. Each model features a redesigned cab, which offers an adjustable suspension seat, extra legroom, 47 percent more right-hand window glass and a larger roof-hatch area. The monitor now has large, easy-to-read gauges, warning lights and icons to provide operating information. Other cab features include a 12-volt port, lunch box storage, a hot-cold beverage holder and a large cup holder. Black Onyx WSP lake and pond colorant from Becker Underwood is a concentrated colorant in a water-soluble packet. Easily applied to contained bodies of water, Black Onyx WSP will transform pale, off-colored water to a mirror-like black color, the company says. The product is environmentally safe and won’t harm fish or other wildlife, and additionally poses no fishing, swimming or recreational restrictions post-application, it adds. Underhill has expanded its Full Coverage Irrigation Profile line of stainless steel retrofit rotor nozzles to include the Rain Bird Eagle 700 and other popular golf sprinklers from Rain Bird and The Toro Co., the company says. Designed to eliminate donuts, dry spots and over-watered areas, the FCI Profile nozzles are color-coded for easy field identification. Housings are made of solid brass and are engineered to provide uniform water distribution and reduce wind drift. Full metal nozzles are designed not to erode, offering consistent performance. The Toro Co. has improved its SitePro 2.2 central control software. In addition to its new golf decoder control system, SitePro 2.2 now offers four new features available to Network VP Satellite users. Group multi-manual, station repeats, program repeats and auto syringe are now available with the program to provide advanced operations for overseeding, hot spots or fertilizer wash-in, the company says. The station and program repeat functions minimize runoff by giving users the ability to change how water is applied as opposed to altering the amount of water used. PostShield USA Inc. says its new PVC sleeve product fits snugly around all 4 x 4 posts used on golf courses. The product accommodates a faster, simpler and safer installation, replacement and removal of posts while creating a barrier between wood, composite materials, dirt and concrete to allow for water drain-off and moisture to vent, the company says. The market-tested product allows superintendents to combine natural wood with the longevity of UV-protected PVC below ground, the company adds. TeeJet Technologies has launched a line of products compatible with the Isobus electronic communication interface that enables single-point control of implements from one monitor and the communication of products from different manufacturers. The company’s initial Isobus products include a high-resolution color terminal, a general-purpose joystick and a job computer suited for spraying and spreading operations. The Golf Course Builders Association of America recently published its 2007 Membership Directory for golf course professionals, containing a complete listing of contact information for all national and international builders and suppliers who are association members. The publication also identifies the members that have met selective guidelines and requirements for GCBAA certification. The GCBAA also unveils its construction cost estimation CD-ROM, developed to help golf course developers understand accurate estimates for projects. Legend Teak Series benches from Par Aide come unfinished and are designed to weather naturally to a silver-gray patina, the company says. Two available styles are the traditional bench, which is 6 feet wide with a back and arm rests, and a junior bench, which measures 4 feet wide without a back or arm rests. The company says it uses teak from government-regulated plantations in Asia that follow strict replanting guidelines — for each tree harvested, two more are replanted. Miller-Leaman Inc.’s new stainless steel Thompson filters are designed to prevent sprinkler nozzles and micro-drip emitters from clogging. Available in Type 304 and Type 316 stainless steel, the filters feature a conical screen to offer more screen surface area versus traditional y-strainers and basket strainers, the company says. Available in a variety of screen mesh options from large perforated hole openings to 60-micron, the filters operate with a press drop of less than 1 psi, the company adds. The Thompson filters can be outfitted with optional instrumentation packages that include a pressure differential alarm package, which sets off an audible or visual alarm when it needs servicing, and an automatic timer flush package, which automatically opens the filter’s flush port on a periodic basis. A colloidal pest control lawn wash insecticide, manufactured by Inventek Colloidal Cleaners LLC and distributed by Hydrocarbon Solutions Inc., controls mosquitos and arthropods while posing no threat to humans, animals, flora and fauna, the company says. The formula, Inventek Lawn Wash SC 150, acts on contact to suffocate adult mosquitoes, beetles, mites, ticks and wood borers. Users can target an individual species of insect through varied dilution rates, which allow control without harming beneficial resident insect populations. FMC Professional Solutions’ Segway fungicide has received EPA registration for the golf course and turf management industries, the company announces. Segway provides immediate and season-long control of pythium diseases such as Pythium blight, pythium root dysfunction and pythium damping off on greens, tees and fairways, the company adds. With no known disease resistance, Segway fungicide contains the active ingredient cyazofamid, which prevents pythium by stopping spores from germinating and inhibits the spread of the disease. Coleman Cable Inc. offers a new ripcord in its line of Baron thermostat wire. The new 123HD60 hedge trimmer from Husqvarna is dual-sided and designed especially for light-use commercial operators. Equipped with the company’s LowVibT antivibration system, the 123HD60 offers easy operation and better control by isolating the power head and the cutting deck from the handles, which results in less vibration transferred to the operator, the company says. A 22.5-cc, two-stroke engine powers the machine, which comes with Smart Start, a spring-assist starter combined with air purge. Envoy Plus herbicide from Valent Professional Products controls annual and perennial grasses and replaces the company’s Envoy. The new formulation enhances the activity of clethodim, the product’s active ingredient, and growers can expect faster and more consistent control of troublesome grasses, the company says. Because conifer growers can use nonionic surfactants, crop oil concentrate and combination products, they have more surfactant flexibility with Envoy Plus, the company adds. FMC Professional Solutions says its new Echelon herbicide has been approved for use and sale by the EPA. The formula is approved for pre-emergence and early post-emergence control of annual grasses, broadleaf weeds and annual sedges in golf courses, sports turf and other areas. Designed to provide pre-emergence control of Poa annua, Echelon also provides post-emergence control of goosegrass, dandelions, curly dock and buckhorn plantain, the company says. Labeled for use on golf course fairways, roughs and non-playing surfaces, Echelon is labeled for application rates on warm-season and cool-season grasses. The formula is available in a suspension concentrate and will soon be available as a granular on fertilizer formulation, the company adds. Mauget has released Imicide, an enclosed micro-infusion application the company says works with a tree’s natural processes for optimal health. University and USDA research has shown Imicide to be an effective treatment for emerald ash borer, in addition to targeting such insects as Asian longhorned beetles, aphids and Japanese beetles, the company says. Imicide is said to start controlling infestation one to seven days after application. The formula is available in 1-liter containers for liquid loadable injectors.
