Turf Pride has introduced a family of reel and bedknife grinders with three new reel and blade sharpeners. The Power Edge reel sharpener features a different approach to grinding stone orientation from conventional spin and relief grinders, with the grinding stone sitting perpendicularly to the reel and taking on a concave shape to fit the circumference of the reel. With a spin speed of 2,000 rpm, the stone automatically travels back and forth along the reel. A separate motor turns the reel to sharpen all blades equally. The patent-pending process eliminates the impact associated with the typical spin grinder, the company says. Pneumatic power reduces dangers associated with electric motors, switches and controls, it adds. The Power Edge features no computer components and can be installed without tools. The company’s Pro Edge blade sharpener grinds both the top face and front edge of bedknives and is also designed to sharpen rotary blades. Contact Turf Pride, 888-427-7605 (www.turfprideusa.com).

A new injectable formulation of Merit insecticide for tree care is available from Bayer Environmental Science after the product recently received registration from the EPA. Designed to control pest infestations, Merit’s formulation allows applicators to inject a higher concentration of imidacloprid with less volume, improving operational efficiency, the company says. Injected directly into the tree trunk or root flare tissue, the insecticide is translocated throughout the tree for systemic protection. Users can choose their preferred delivery of the product: a traditional method such as soil drench or soil injection, or through the new method. Merit is developed to control such pests as the emerald ash borer, Asian longhorned beetle, hemlock woolly agelgid, aphids, borers, Japnese beetles, lace bugs, psyllids, leaf miners, leaf beetles, leafhoppers and scale. To combat slugs and snails on a golf course, Monterey Lawn & Garden Products has developed Sluggo. Metaldehyde-free, Sluggo can be used around wildlife to control snails and slugs. Its active ingredient, iron phosphate, is a naturally occurring substance that breaks down in soil and turns into fertilizer, the company says. Ideally scattered on soil in the evening when the ground is damp, Sluggo comes in compact granules. The substance causes snails and
slugs to go back to their nesting areas before expiring, eliminating the
chance of pest remains left on the soil. Sluggo does not poison other animals. Contact Monterey Lawn & Garden Products, 559-499-2100 (www.montereylawngarden.com).

Contact Turf Pride, 888-427-7605 (www.turfprideusa.com).

The UltraZone line of modular manifold fittings has been recently unveiled by Lasco Fittings Inc. Designed with a telescopic style for adjustability, the UltraZone manifold system facilitates replacing valves of different lay lengths without any cutting or adding new parts, the company says. Bigger O-Rings incorporated into the system prevent leaking, while the fittings’ parts are hand-tightened with the exception of glued connections. Each part is pressure rated at 150 psi, tested to over 480 psi. Lasco also offers a set of three manifold tees in slip, male thread and female thread with an integral notch and key design. The tees allow fast and easy installation of multiple valves, and
they can be assembled for the quantity of valves needed as well as pre-set spacing of valves. Contact Lasco Fittings Inc., 800-776-2756 (www.lascofittings.com).

Solo Inc.’s model 154 brush cutter, which is powered by a two-cycle 54.2-cc gas engine, contains a three-part crankshaft and operates at 8,000 rpm. Designed for continuous operation, the machine includes a professional gearbox and a lightweight aluminum deck for an excellent power-to-weight ratio, the company says. A newly developed anti-vibration system reduces vibration by using flexible elements to connect engine and shaft to the bike handle, the company adds. Maximum performance can be achieved even at low revolutions with an ideal power band, which provides longer service life, less noise and fewer fumes for the operator and the environment. Workable on flat ground or on a slope, an off-center quick grip on the 154’s handlebars can be adjusted for operator size. Standard features include up-to-date carrying and safety equipment, and the unit’s mechanical parts are easily accessible without tools. Contact Solo Inc., (www.solousa.com).

The pattern is oriented 30 degrees forward and 30 degrees backward, and creates a more effective droplet size for turfgrass applications, while maintaining excellent drift control characteristics, the company says. The TurboDrop TwinFan can be dissembled by hand, making cleaning or upgrades easy, Greenleaf Technologies adds. Contact Greenleaf Technologies Inc., 800-881-4832 (www.turbodrop.com).

A new Loop and T lock from OnGuard has been specially developed to deter ATV thieves. The Beast 5017LPT chain lock, an addition to the company’s 2007 collection, functions by wrapping the chain loop around a solidly anchored object and running the 10-inch-long, 2⁄3-inch-thick steel bar through a hole on the vehicle. The T-head is then locked on the other side for a secure unit. Wheels, rotors, frame mounts and trailer hitches are a few locations where the company suggests attaching the lock. For added security, The Beast 5017LPT includes a double bolt locking mechanism where hardened steel pins lock at both ends of the shackle for a redundant locking system. Hexagonal steel chain links deliver maximum cut resistance, and a reinforced sleeve over the crossbar and cylinder protective coatings on the shackle and crossbar prevent scratching. Water- and heat-resistant, the unit includes five laser-cut keys, including a microlight key for use at night or in times of poor visibility. Contact OnGuard,

The product combines a ball marker and a golf glove grip on a die-cast alloy frame, which comes with a dual-purpose spring clip. Fastenable to a belt, waistband or pocket, the G-Clip MINI reduces the chance of lost gloves and the need to fumble for a ball marker, the company says. A recess that holds the ball marker is polymer-lined to avoid metal-to-metal contact when reseating the marker, and it also features a hidden magnet. A glove grip is made of molded Velcro for a long life and secure fit. Its spring clip serves as the G-Clip’s secure attachment to a pocket, and also can be used as a money clip. New features include a variable gpm setting, a reset override system and a smart valve and pressure valve. Unlike pull-type chippers, Bobcat’s 8B can be placed in remote areas due to its size, agility and maneuverability of the company’s loaders or utility work machines, the company adds. The variable gpm allows the chipper attachment to operate within two different flow ranges: 26 through 31 gpm, and 32 through 37 gpm. Equipped with a remote attachment control system, the 8B is designed to let users start or stop the loader engine and chipper attachment while standing beside it.
