Chosen as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1975 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons, Steve Bartkowski took the Falcons to a place they had never been before — the playoffs.

Bartkowski led the Atlanta Falcons to the playoffs for the first time ever in 1978, then took the team even farther to win its first two divisional championships in 1980 and 1982. The 1975 Rookie of the Year enjoyed a 12-year NFL career where he was named an All-Pro selection twice and the 1980 offensive MVP of the NFC.

Bartkowski owns several Falcons records, including most touchdown passes in a season (31), most passing yards in a season (3,830), most career passing yards (23,468), most career touchdown passes (154) and most yards passing in a game (416).

After football, Bartkowski went on to host TNN’s “Backroad Adventures with Steve Bartkowski” and ESPN’s “Suzuki’s Great Outdoors with Steve Bartkowski.” An avid golfer, “Bart” plays to a 0 handicap, has several Celebrity Players Tour wins and has sunk eight holes-in-one.

"I’m in the construction business, and we’ve got guys out there in the field that do the work, are laborers, carpenters, that sort of thing, and then the project managers and estimators in the office. I’ll tell you what, the superintendents have to have a mix of both. They have to know how to do it and know how to implement it, and manage the process. It’s a real unique skill set.

I love the golf course superintendents. When it comes to growing grass, there are no secrets anymore, they know how to do it. I’m just overwhelmed — we’re so blessed in this country to be able to play so many different beautiful golf courses."
