Notice anything different?
This is January, and every January issue of GCM devotes some serious space to what’s coming up at February’s GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show. With the Club Managers Association of America joining the trade show this year for the first time, there’s plenty to tell you about, and you’ll learn much of what you want to know from the magazine now in your hands. But as you already may have noticed, there’s something else going on with this issue. First, there’s a new look to the magazine, inside and out. From the big, bold “GCM” on the cover to the redesigned heart of the magazine, the GCM staff has spent the last year putting together a new, fresh publication that mirrors the way our superintendent readers spend their day. Take, for example, the new “Inside” section — one-page, easy-to-read features that take you inside just about every major daily concern you have as a GCSAA member — Your Career, Your Shop, Your Environment, Your Game, Your Turf, Your Water. Alongside these helpful columns, we’ve added news and notes about that topic to give you a complete snapshot of what’s happening now. The table of contents has expanded to three pages, allowing us to highlight the offerings on the Web properties of GCM and GCSAA, including GCM’s blog, “GCM’s Ask the Experts” and GCSAA This Week. Our “Front Nine” news section includes short, concise news items, but with some space reserved for more in-depth stories, while our research section, one of the most popular GCM sections, also has a new look and feel, with the emphasis on making these technical articles and graphics as easy to consume as possible. And we kept those handy green bars on each page, making it easy for you to find the section. Following the GCSAA President’s Message each month will be this column, “Inside GCM.” Ever wonder how the GCM staff gets the information for the magazine each month, who they talk to, and what industry people are telling us? That’s what a GCM staff member will tell you each month in “Inside GCM.” You’ll see other, more subtle changes as you work your way through the magazine, but it’s important to note that most of these changes have come about from listening to you. Media — printed, televised or Web based — are changing, and we’ve asked members how they want us to change with it. The new GCM is in response to that guidance.
