A new silt-fence installer attachment from Bobcat Co. makes compliance with erosion control, runoff and pollutant discharge regulations easier, the company says. The attachment installs a silt fence more quickly and securely than trenching or hand-digging, the company adds. The attachment is approved for use on skid-steer loaders (models S220 through S330), compact track loaders (models T180 through T300), the A300 all-wheel steer loaders and compact tractors with up to 100 hp and a Class I or Class II three-point hitch. With the installer, silt-fence material is threaded under a rod and through the blade’s chute. The attachment is then lowered into the ground, where the silt fence unrolls automatically as the machine is driven backward. The quick-change cap includes a spring-loaded plate to ensure proper tension so the roll won’t unwind. The attachment can adapt to fit wider silt-fence material measuring 36, 42 and 48 inches. With 55 and 60 hp, the machines feature a front-wheel-drive axle and a 4-cylinder, 135.2-cubic-inch displacement turbocharged engine. Transmission options are a deluxe 12-by-12 electro-hydraulic shuttle shift transmission, which allows operators to shuttle between forward and reverse without clutching or stopping, or a standard 12-by-12 synchro shuttle shift, which enables shifting from forward to reverse without coming to a complete stop, the company says. Both transmissions offer a left-hand shuttle lever for shuttling without the need to remove your hand from the steering wheel. The Comfort Plus operator’s station comes with a wide-open platform with an anti-skid rubber mat and a seat with improved back and bolster support. Engine oil levels can be checked on the right-hand side of the machine without lifting the hood or removing the loader. Four models — 225, 300, 450 and 600 — of Lely weeders and thatchers range in working widths from 7.5 feet to 20 feet. The thatcher is ideal for golf course maintenance applications with spring tines that vibrate through the turf to remove material, allowing nutrients and air through to the roots to also assist in drainage. Made with a lightweight frame, the device includes four rows of staggered tines to allow trash through but to also provide a close ground work spacing of 1½ inches. The Lely weeder features a zero position for each tine, which allows operators to lock out any tine. The machines also can be used to break up crusted soils and incorporate seeds. Both 6-mm and 7-mm tine options are available. Contact Lely USA, 888-245-4684 (www.lelyusa.com). OvoControl P, birth control for pigeons from Innolytics LLC, has officially received EPA registration. A nonhormonal oral contraception for pigeons, the product effectively controls egg hatchability in the birds. The company says the product reduces pigeon-related issues such as waste removal, increased maintenance and potential for disease transmission. OvoControl P is based on technology that centers on the ability to reduce eggs’ hatchability by feeding treated bait to birds during reproductive seasons. The effect is reversible, and the company says efforts have been made to develop a feeding system that limits exposure to nontargeted species. With 3-inch suction and discharge ports, the self-priming PTX301D can pump up to 250 gallons a minute at a maximum pressure of 21 psi. The device features a maximum suction lift of 25 feet and a maximum lift head of 49 feet. Its design isolates the pump mechanism from the fluid being moved, making it ideal for re-circulated water and other high-solid material content up to 2 inches that can’t be handled with a centrifugal pump, the company says. No moving parts means the pump can run dry indefinitely. A positive displacement-type, hermetically sealed compression chamber prevents loss of gases and liquids being moved, the company adds. The pump is powered by a 7-hp Subaru EX21 overhead cam air-cooled 4-cycle gas engine. Contact Subaru Robin America Inc., 800-277-6246 (www.subarupower.com). Two models — Caterpillar’s new 414E IL industrial loader provides joystick control of rear implements. Seat-mounted implement controls provide greater operator comfort and greater productivity, the company says. With just one joystick, operators control all five functions — raise, lower, float, tilt and pitch — of the three-point tool carrier and the ability to activate hydraulics and work tools. The front loader is adaptable to fit a 1-cubic-yard, a 1.25-cubic-yard or a 1.3-cubic-yard multipurpose bucket plus a range of other Caterpillar tools. The power train includes a Cat 3054C DINA diesel engine that features 74 net horsepower and all-wheel drive in all underfoot conditions. An optional turbocharged 3054C DIT is available. The new tip, Air Induction XR Flat Spray, creates fewer driftable droplets at high pressures and provides drift control without compromising coverage, the company says. The nozzles use an air induction design to produce larger air-filled drops intended to stay on target and cover the entire plant. TeeJet says the product is ideal for pre-emergence surface-applied herbicides, post-emergence systemic herbicides and post-emergence contact herbicides. Other features include easy removal of the pre-orifice for easy cleaning and inspection, a polymer material to provide longer wear life and better acid resistance, a compact design, an operating range of 15 to 90 psi and tip color-coding in compliance with the ISO standard for easy capacity identification.
