Jerry Rice

all-time NFL receptions leader

There are good reasons why Jerry Rice is considered the greatest wide receiver ever to catch a football.

Consider that he held just about every receiving record in the book when he retired in 2004 — receptions (1,549), yards (22,895), touchdown receptions (198), 100-yard games (76), most consecutive games with a catch (274) — the list goes on. He was a vital part of the San Francisco 49ers winning three Super Bowls (1988, 1989, 1991), including being named Super Bowl MVP in 1988, only the third time a wide receiver had earned that honor.

A 13-time Pro Bowler, a member of both the 1980s and 1990s all-decade teams and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, it is just a matter of time before No. 80 becomes a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame — he becomes eligible next year.

— Seth Jones, senior associate editor

"If the golf course is not in good shape, I don’t want to play it. The guys who are doing the maintenance, they make everything possible. I notice that a lot of public courses are like private courses now. If you want to stay competitive and you want people to come out and play your course, it has to be in great shape.

The maintenance guys — those guys are the true heroes. They’re why we come out and play golf."
