Terry Bolin, 54, died Aug. 10, 2008, from leukemia. A GCSAA member for 22 years, Mr. Bolin served as the superintendent of the West Course at the Broadmoor Golf Course, Colorado Springs, Colo., from 1975 to 1978, and the East Course at the Broadmoor Hotel from 1978 to 1996. That year he became the first superintendent and then-director of agronomy of the Colorado Springs Country Club, where he worked from 1996 through 2008. Mr. Bolin demonstrated leadership through many organizations, including as president of the Pikes Peak GCSA, president of the Pikes Peak Turfgrass Association and director of the Rocky Mountain GCSA. He also led Colorado Springs CC to become Audubon-certified. An avid fly fisherman, he also enjoyed hunting and trap shooting. Mr. Bolin was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Cynthia Bolin Fisch. He is survived by his stepsons Kylejon and Benjamin King; his sisters Laura Luebke and Trudy Thomas; two nieces; a nephew; and his wife, Augusta King, 5187 Eros Way, Colorado Springs, CO 80917. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were requested to be made to the National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10014.

Joseph W. Determan, 90, died Aug. 24, 2008. Born in 1918 in Mission, Texas, Mr. Determan worked as a farmer until 1964 when his family moved to Carroll, Iowa. He then started his career as a superintendent, working at Carroll Municipal Golf Course, Carroll Country Club and Fontenelle Hills Country Club in Bellevue, Neb. In the early ’80s he moved to Bella Vista, Ark., to help build several golf courses in the area before moving back to Carroll two years later to develop the back nine at Carroll Municipal GC. Mr. Determan retired in 1986. A 32-year GCSAA member, Mr. Determan was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Third- and Fourth-Degree Knights of Columbus and United Commercial Travelers. He enjoyed playing golf and cards and spending winters in Arizona. Mr. Determan was preceded in death by his infant son John Determan; his parents Henry and Elizabeth Determan; his sister Helen Holub and husband, Ted; a brother, Leo Determan; and his brother-in-law Andrew Heid. He is survived by 12 children and their spouses: JoAnn and Ron Jensen; Donald and Mary Determan; Jean and Jerry Blum; Barbara and Bill Seier; Patricia and H.L. Adams; Mary and Ron Hagen; David and Jeanne Determan; Diane and Duane Klocke; Michael and Stephanie Determan; Robert Determan; James and Marjorie Determan; and Thomas and Jana Determan; his sister Marie Heid; his brother-in-law Jerome Schramm and his wife, Ramona; 34 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and his wife, Delores Determan, 1014 Salinger Ave., Carroll, IA 51401.

John Farrell, 49, died June 23, 2008, after a short illness. Mr. Farrell, an 11-year GCSAA member, worked for the last 10 years at Lebanon Seaboard Corp. He enjoyed golfing and was a devoted Giants and Yankees fan. He is preceded in death by his parents Betty and Jack Farrell. Mr. Farrell is survived by his stepson, Carl; sister, Betsy Perisano; brother-in-law, Joe; niece Ashley; many other family members and friends; and his wife, Margaret, 420 A. S. Xanthus Ave., Galloway, NJ 08205.

George M. Kenny Jr., 55, died Aug. 23, 2008. A member of GCSAA for more than 24 years, Mr. Kenny was born in 1952 in Elmhurst, Ill., and attended Bradley University. Superintendent at a number of golf clubs in California and Colorado, Mr. Kenny started at Eaton (Colo.) Country Club in 1979 before moving to Singletree Golf Club, Edwards, Colo. In 1984 he accepted a superintendent position at Eagles Nest Golf Course in Silverthorne, Colo. He loved golf, reading and his favorite sports teams the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Alice Kenny; and his father-in-law, Gary Sullivan. His survivors are his mother-in-law, Wynona Sullivan; his stepmother, Virginia; a brother-in-law Bill Sullivan and wife, Jennifer; his siblings and their spouses — Elizabeth and Rory Conran, William and Kate Kenny, Robert and Jan Kenny, Kevin and Kathy Kenny, Brian and Joanne Kenny, and Joseph and Jennifer Kenny; 22 nieces and nephews; and his wife of 15 years, Diana Kenny.

Charles L. Sidenstucker, 83, died Nov. 12, 2007. A 50-year member of GCSAA, Mr. Sidenstucker was born in 1924 in Webster City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII before starting his career as a superintendent. He worked as a superintendent for 30 years at the St. Joseph (Mo.) Country Club and for five years at Ames (Iowa) Country Club. Mr. Sidenstucker served as president of the Heart of America GCSA in 1974 and also served as a board member for the Missouri Valley Turfgrass Association. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 359. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Way; his parents Stewart and Alice Sidenstucker; and his daughter-in-law, Mona Sidenstucker. His survivors include his sons John Sidenstucker and William Sidenstucker; his stepson, Richard Lee; his stepdaughter, Julie Hill; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
