AEDs on the golf course

Sudden cardiac arrest is the number one killer on golf courses, and according to Golf Digest, golf courses rank fifth in places where sudden cardiac arrest is most likely to occur. The device used to resuscitate someone who goes into sudden cardiac arrest is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). AEDs administer an electric shock through the chest wall of a person who has suffered cardiac arrest. Some golf courses have implemented AED programs to try to help increase the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest victims. AEDs are easy to use, and are the key to increasing the survival rate. The response time for paramedics and medical personnel to arrive on site with a defibrillator can take ten minutes or more, thus decreasing the chance of survival for the victim. Are you interested in owning an AED and implementing an AED policy on your golf course?

The compliance area of the Resources section of GCSAA Online has comprehensive information on AEDs, legal liability with owning an AED, the cost, why it is necessary to have one, and so much more.

To obtain more information about AEDs, visit the compliance area or call the Information and Public Policy department at (800) 472-7878.
