Since 1971, GCSAA's Certification Program has provided golf course superintendents with an established and challenging means of measuring their professional and continuing educational accomplishments. Earning the professional designation Certified Golf Course Superintendent (“CGCS”) is the highest level of recognition in the golf course management industry.
Say “congratulations” to your newly certified chapter members! They have committed valuable time and have worked very hard, so let them know you are proud of their accomplishments!
- Send a letter congratulating the newly certified professional and don’t forget those CGCSs who have recently completed the certification renewal process.
- Send a congratulatory letter to the individual’s boss.
- Submit names to the local paper for publication.
- Publish newly certified members’ names and those who have completed certification renewal in your chapter newsletter.
- Congratulate all certified members at chapter meetings – especially those who’ve just passed by presenting them with their certification certificate and plaque.
- Be sure to use the professional designation “CGCS” in all chapter rosters, correspondence, etc., regarding these individuals.
Chapters are an integral part of the overall promotion of certification to members. You can help them make a solid investment in their careers by encouraging them to pursue certification. Guide them to the certification information provided on the GCSAA website. If you have any questions on the process, or would like to recognize someone locally, please contact Penny Mitchell or Lorrie Butell.
Chapter Certification Attestor Liaisons
An attestor training video has been developed to help CGCSs and certification applicants understand the process for the on-site course inspection, which is one component in completing certification. You may wish to show the video at a chapter meeting. If you'd like to share a copy of the video with members of your chapter, send your request to mbrhelp@gcsaa.org.
