Toro Championship Tournament Training Program
About the Program
GCSAA and The Toro Company are pleased to announce the annual Toro Championship Tournament Training Program (TCTTP). A past TCTTP winner describes his experience at the PGA Championship as, “a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Participation in this program will make you better equipped to prepare the course for the tournaments at any facility, large or small.”
One GCSAA assistant superintendent member and one student member will be selected to travel to the US Open Championship at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. The winners must be available to work from June 7-16, 2008.
In addition, one GCSAA assistant superintendent member will be selected to travel in August to the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The winner must be available to work from August 2-11, 2008.
As a winner, you will get experience first-hand what it takes to prepare a course for tournament play. You will be on the course working with staff four hours in the morning and four hours in the evening. Additionally, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how the golf course superintendent at a tournament facility manages everything that comes with hosting a major golfing event, such as dealing with vendors and television compounds, not to mention parking logistics.
Who is eligible to apply to the TCTTP?
GCSAA assistant superintendent and student members in good standing with GCSAA are eligible to apply to the TCTTP. Past winners of the TCTTP are not eligible to re-apply.
TCTTP winners can expect to participate in a variety of educational experiences including many of the following:
- Bunker maintenance
- Clipping control
- Ball mark & divot repair
- Greens maintenance, i.e., stimpmeter readings
- Course set-up (pin positions, tee marker placement)
When not on the course working, enjoy the fruits of your labor by attending your assigned championship event as a spectator!

To apply to the 2008 TCTTP, applicants must submit in the TCTTP application consisting of: the application, employment history information, education background (assistant superintendent applicants only) as well as a 500-word essay, describing where they see themselves, professionally, in 10 years and what they hope to accomplish during that time.
