In this step, you'll identify geographic areas that have common management features
Management zones are geographic areas of the golf course that have common management features.
For example, greens frequently are similar in construction and management requirements and can be grouped in the overall category called “greens.” You could develop similar zones areas for your fairways, tees, roughs and even special management areas, such as buffers around water features.

Materials for the step:
If you don't have a soils survey or don't know your soil types and properties, you can use theUSDA Web Soil Survey to determine the soils on your golf course. In addition, you may find a course map or online mapping tool like Google Maps, Microsoft Research Maps (formerly known as TerraServer) or any other similar service.
