Title:Superintendent,
Fair Oaks Ranch (Texas) Golf & Country Club
GCSAA
membership:Four years
Education:Bachelor
of science, Texas Tech University, Lubbock
Tournament
advice:The likely GCSAA
tournament venue, the Live Oak Course, is short but very tight,
demanding pinpoint shot-making. Its toughest characteristic,
however, is its small greens, which average barely more than 5,000
square feet each. "We'll have to keep the Stimpmeter at 9 or
even a bit slower," Kiser says. "Anything much faster,
and we wouldn't be able to have enough good pin positions."
Kiser on
Kiser: "Fair Oaks is
my first position being more of a manager than a hands-on
superintendent. I'm learning to deal with a lot of issues. I enjoy
the members' asking for advice on things. I take pride in that,
and I always will. It's a new challenge. To me, it's the next step
up in my career. Even so, I miss getting out on the course cutting
cups, walking around with a spray pack . . . those kinds of
things." |
