June is U.S. Open month in the world of golf, and in addition to a preview of this year’s big event at Winged Foot Golf Club, this issue of GCM also takes a peek two years into the future, when Torrey Pines CGCS Candice Combs will become the first female superintendent ever to host one of golf’s majors. Managing Editor Bunny Smith profiles Combs and her ascension to the top spot in San Diego. This month’s cover design, crafted by Art/Production Manager Roger Billings and Prepress/Production Specialist Kelly Neis, focuses on this month’s other major feature story, a detailed look at the issue of water quality and why it’s important to superintendents, written by Senior Staff Writer Terry Ostmeyer.
