Superintendent and assistant superintendent salaries

Average base superintendent salaries rose by 2.7% in 2011, 2.8% for assistants.

In late 2010 and early 2011, GCSAA conducted a comprehensive compensation and benefits survey. More than 4,500 member superintendents responded (for a response rate of 51%), providing salary, budget, benefits and staffing information in support of the report.

Despite a trying time for the golf economy, the average base salary for superintendents rose from $78,898 in 2009 to $81,044 in 2011, a 2.7% increase in the two-year period. For assistant superintendents, in 2011, the average base salary rose to $39,660 from $38,585 in 2009, representing a 2.8% increase.

Using this information

The information presented here is a snapshot of the 2011 report, and represents the average (mean), median and percentile salaries of golf course superintendents. With varying qualifications, experience and responsibilities in a range of positions, it is important to bear in mind that this information should be viewed as a starting place for salary negotiations by superintendents or assistant superintendents and their employers.
