New GCSAA member publication to debut

Beginning April 4, GCSAA members will begin receiving Newsline's GCSAA This Week, an e-mail publication that includes up-to-date information for members, including news items, education schedules, deadlines and reminders. In addition, each issue will highlight a member benefit to help them make the most of the services offered by and through GCSAA.

It offers timely, to-the-point information that doesn't crowd member's desk space or inboxes. Newsline's GCSAA This Week will replace the printed Newsline which ceased publication with the March issue.

Now, each Tuesday, Newsline's GCSAA This Week will provide association news and on Thursday, NewsWeekly will cover the golf and turf industry.

Project EverGreen scholarship program

Project EverGreen has announced its Because Green Matters Scholarship Program which will award $2,500 scholarships to two undergraduate students studying a field related to the green industry.

“The green industry is an ever-expanding field with a wide variety of career possibilities,” said Den Gardner, executive director of Project EverGreen. “Our goal is not only to assist those students with the greatest need, but to inspire and support students that share our passion for this industry.”

To qualify students must major or minor in curriculum related to the green industry, such as horticulture, plant sciences, botany, agronomy, plant pathology or water management.

Eligibility, as determined by a committee made up of members of the Project EverGreen board of directors, extends to two and four year program students attending institutions that offer turf, landscape and golf management curriculums. Applications are due June 1, 2006 and may be downloaded from http://www.projectevergreen.com.

Irrigation Association sponsors Australia study tour

The Irrigation Association is sponsoring its first international irrigation study tour with a 19-day trip to New Zealand and Australia in late September.

The tour will include private meetings with leading irrigation professionals, professors and practitioners, with opportunities to see their results in agriculture, parks and the region's most popular destinations.

The itinerary includes sightseeing, opportunities to relax and socialize with fellow irrigation and green industry guests plus private tours of farms, orchards, a model farm, parks, botanical garden, a turf-topped Parliament house in Canberra, an irrigation manufacturer, and a golf course.

Australia is known as the world's driest continent, so the tour provides an opportunity to learn first-hand how a region with vast ranges of precipitation and water has managed its extremes so well.

The trip departs Los Angeles Sept. 29 and returns Oct. 17, with an optional four-day extension to Cairns in tropical North Queensland, Australia.

Applications and a deposit are due before May 1. Contact doug@dougfendertravel.com, (888) 272-6498 .
