Georgia GCSA elects new leadership and presents awards

The Georgia GCSA elected new leadership and presented it annual award recipients. The new president is Mike Crawford, CGCS at TPC Sugarloaf.

Vice President: Anthony Williams, CGCS at Stone Mountain Golf Club was elected vice president; Richard Staughton, CGCS at Towne Lake Hills Golf Club is the immediate past president; and Lane Ferguson, GCSAA Class A superintendent at Creekside Golf & Country Club is the new secretary/treasurer.

The 2008 Georgia GCSA board of directors includes Barry Bennett, CGCS; Berry Collett, CGCS; Craig Conner, GCSAA Class A member, Ivey Dyal, GCSAA Class A member; Lee Fillingim, GCSAA Class A member; Ray Meredith, GCSAA Class A member; Jerry Matthews, CGCS; Brad Owen, GCSAA Class A member.

The 2008 Superintendent of the Year was awarded to Frank Siple, CGCS at Lanier Golf Club. He will also be recognized at the 2008 Georgia Golf Hall of Fame Induction ceremony to be held on Jan. 12, in Augusta.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Tim Murphy, Ph.D., extension weed scientist, University of Georgia.

The 2007 Assistant Superintendent of the Year was Matt Park, GCSAA Class C member at Stone Mountain Golf Club.

The 2007 Golden Pen recipients for contributions to Through the Green were Craig Conner in the superintendent category, and Ed Brown, Ph.D., in the non-superintendent category.

The 2007 Photography Contest Winners were: First - Dennis Echols, CGCS; Second - Stephen Quaife, GCSAA Class C member; and Third - Matt Park, GCSAA Class C member.
