George Peper receives ASGCA Donald Ross Award

George Peper, former editor of Golf magazine and author of 17 golf books, received the Donald Ross Award from the American Society of Golf Course Architects recently at its annual meeting in St. Andrews.

ASGCA presents the Donald Ross Award annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the game of golf and golf course architecture.

In his acceptance speech, Peper encouraged ASGCA members to consider the simple and sustainable way in which links golf works, as in St. Andrews, and to design layouts that cost less to build and maintain.

CMAA appoints Koenigsfeld as senior vice president

The Club Managers Association of America has appointed of Jason Koenigsfeld, Ph.D., as its new senior vice president of professional development. 

Koenigsfeld, who has an extensive academic history in the hospitality and club management industries, earned a Ph.D. from Auburn University in 2007 for his studies in hotel and restaurant management.

Working closely with CMAA academic advisor and UNLV associate professor Joe Perdue, Koenigsfeld recently conducted a complete survey and study of CMAA's certification competency Areas. The study was the basis of his Ph.D. dissertation and the results were analyzed for recommendations for updates to CMAA’s Certified Club Manager program.

Denso names new president of DMTN

Denso as announced that Atsuhiko Shimmura will be named president of Denso Manufacturing Tennessee (DMTN), in Maryville, Tenn.

Shimmura succeeds Masahiko Hattori, who has been DMTN’s president since 2004. Shimmura began his career with Denso and has worked in human resources and business planning and was instrumental in researching Maryville, Tenn., as a manufacturing location in 1988.
