Turfline adds Jerome to sales force

Ryan Jerome has joined the Turfline Inc. sales force as vice president of domestic sales, where he will manage 50 percent of the company's U.S. sales efforts.

Jerome most recently was agronomic sales representative at John Deere Golf in Bridgton, Mo.  He was previously an assistant superintendent at The Rail Golf Course and Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill.

Ewing strengthens operations, appoints senior vice president

As Ewing’s senior vice president of finance and administration, newly-appointed Jeffrey C. Anthony will assist ownership and senior management in the evaluation and streamlining of operations, with other areas of responsibility including accounting, insurance and legal matters. Anthony will also oversee Ewing’s human resources unit as it relates to benefits and employee programs, and will work closely with Ewing’s information services department to further enhance Ewing’s information and reporting systems.

"We’re focused on continued growth and expansion in both new and existing markets," said Douglas W. York, president of Ewing. "Jeff Anthony’s wealth of experience will ensure that our operational goals are met, enabling us to continue improving the Ewing customer experience. We remain committed to offering Green Industry professionals a better business partner, equipped to help them face—and flourish—in a challenging economy."

Prior to joining Ewing, Anthony served as senior vice president of finance (North America and Asia) for Insight Enterprises, a technology solutions provider serving global and local clients in 170 countries.

Well-suited to the Green Industry, Anthony also spent five years serving as vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer for a large distribution company specializing in landscape supply.

Undergrads Receive 2008 Bayer Scholarships

Greg Caldwell, an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va., was among 27 students who recently received a 2008 Bayer Undergraduate Scholarship. Caldwell received the award to help his pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in crop and soil environmental science.

Kristopher Burkhart, an undergraduate at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., also received an undergraduate scholarship. Burkhart is pursuing his associate’s of applied sciences degree with majors in turfgrass management and ornamentals and landscape technology.

Caldwell and Burkhart were among the latest group of students who were awarded scholarships to help advance their academic efforts in Green Industry studies. A full list of scholarship recipients and their schools appears below.

The Bayer Undergraduate Scholarship recognizes students pursuing careers in the Green Industry who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership skills. Recipients of the awards were:
