Jacobsen adds quad tine holders to improve efficiency

Jacobsen says it has an aeration accessory that allows superintendents and turf managers to more than double their productivity during annual core aeration, saving both time and money.

New quad tine holders for the Greensaire 24 aerator are said to offer better hole quality while removing nearly 12 percent of the area covered with each pass. With just two aerations per year, superintendents can remove more than the USGA recommendation of 20 percent of greens area to sustain maximum playability and high-level course conditions.

"Courses are able to reduce the amount of thatch buildup and maintain greens at the highest level by removing 20 percent of greens area each year," said Rob Arthur, product manager. "With the Jacobsen quad tine holders on the GA 24, you remove more in just two passes than what it takes other brands to remove in three or four passes."

Fitted with the quad tine holders, the GA 24 removes 80 percent more material per pass than comparable machines from other leading manufacturers. Visit www.Jacobsen.com, call 888-922-TURF or contact a Jacobsen dealer.

Syngenta unveils Tenacity herbicide

Syngenta Professional Products says its Tenacity herbicide has received registration from the EPA for use on golf courses and sod farms.

The selective pre- and post-emergence herbicide controls 46 broadleaf weeds and undesired grasses in several cool and warm season turf types.  In addition to weed control in established turf, Tenacity can be applied at seeding to reduce weed competition for improved seedling development.

Tenacity was granted reduced-risk status due to its active ingredient, mesotrione, which has a favorable environmental fate, environmental toxicity and human health profile when compared to many registered alternatives. As Tenacity is not currently registered for use in all states, superintendents and sod producers are asked to check with their state or local extension service prior to buying or using this product.

Tenacity, with its novel mode of action, is based on a compound produced by the bottlebrush plant (Callistemon citrinus). Discovered and developed by Syngenta, mesotrione provides systemic pre-emergence and post-emergence control of numerous weeds including crabgrass, chickweed, clover and yellow nutsedge.  It can also selectively control grasses such as bentgrass and nimblewill that often contaminate Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass fairways or roughs.

Tenacity has been tested and proven acceptable for use on the following turf species: Kentucky bluegrass, centipedegrass, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, St. Augustinegrass (for sod farms) and fine fescue. Contact www.syngentaprofessionalproducts.com.

Phoenix adds GullWing aquatic herbicide

GullWing aquatic herbicide, the latest addition to Phoenix Environmental Care’s line, offers broad spectrum control of shoreline grass, nuisance floating aquatic plants, broadleaf weeds and brush species, and emerged vegetation in and around aquatic sites.

"The active ingredient in GullWing is imazapyr," said Craig Smith, aquatic business manager. "Imazapyr is a proven performer that is effective at very low rates, and provides long-term, labor-saving control.  It may be tank-mixed with Avocet or Kraken aquatic herbicides to control a broad spectrum of floating aquatic plants, shoreline grasses, broadleaf weeds and nuisance aquatic brush."

GullWing may be used in still and flowing water, including estuaries and marine sites. Water treated with the product may be used for fishing and swimming immediately after use. It will be available in a soluble liquid formulation containing 2 pounds of active ingredient per gallon in the spring of 2008. Contact http://www.phoenixenvcare.com/.

Underhill has golf course tree watering stakes

Underhill International's new Deep Drip tree watering stakes are available in a range of sizes to promote healthier trees on golf courses by applying water, oxygen and fertilizer directly to root zones.

The 1-inch wide stakes come in 14-inch, 24-inch and 36-inch lengths, all of which include a slotted cap for easy drip line attachment. The tapered stake heads feature a perforated lower shaft for optimal water and fertilizer saturation. An internal filter keeps out rocks and dirt.

The stakes are constructed from tough ABS plastic and feature a specially-engineered ABS cap for sledge hammer installation and a reinforced ABS tip with internal ribbing. The cap is also UV-protected against cracking or weathering. The stakes can be rotated periodically so that intrusive roots do not clog the shaft. Contact http://www.underhill.us.

KMB introduces SurfCote fertilizers

KMB Technologies has introduced a polymer coated urea technology that it says can extend the nutrient release of fertilizers for up to 90 days.

SurfCote-N is a slow-release urea for general turf production and will be available through Knox Fertilizer distribution in the Shaw’s Turf Food line for spring 2008.

"At a time of increased environmental awareness, SurfCote-N is the right product at the right time for our customers," said Robert Shaw, president of Knox Fertilizer. "With slow release technology, a consistent nutrient source is always available to the plant for optimum growth but without the time-consuming and costly inconvenience of repeat applications.

According the company, over nearly four years in development the Surf technology has undergone three years of independent field testing with Universities in south, east and Midwest, each demonstrating consistent results over diverse geography and conditions. Contact http://www.knoxfert.com.

Kioti announces new full-fleet warranty

Kioti Tractor, a division of Daedong USA Inc., has launched a new 4-year full-fleet warranty.

Although the company has had a 4-year warranty in place since 2006, it was geared towards tractors purchased for non- commercial use only, covering all parts and labor costs for drive line and engine component failures that occurred due to defective materials or workmanship within the first 48 months of ownership.

The new warranty has been enhanced to cover owners who use their tractors for commercial purposes as well. The full-fleet warranty extends commercial use coverage to 48 months and eliminates all hourly usage ceilings for coverage eligibility within the first four years. Contact http://www.kioti.com.
