E-Z-Go introduces RXV golf cars

E-Z-Go has introduced its first all-new fleet of golf cars since 1995 – the RXV. Available in gas and electric models, the RXV features front, back and side bumpers to absorb impact into the frame rather than the engine or components.

The electric model offers a fail-safe park brake that automatically engages when the vehicle stops, eliminating the chance of the vehicle rolling away. Its drive train incorporates an alternating current motor, which produces more power and longer operating time between battery charges. According to the company the vehicles are 30 percent more efficient than direct-current golf cars.

Gas models come with a Kawasaki 13-hp engine with that utilizes a larger cylinder and low rpm to produce better fuel economy with less noise. The RXV also has a fail-safe parking brake that engages whenever the car stops. It is said to be able to hold on a 40-percent grade.

The RXV’s seats are made from 100 percent recycled foam, and other features include a slip-resistant floor mat, a double-walled canopy and 50 percent thicker struts. Contact http://www.ezgo.com/.

Rain Bird's mobile controller works from anywhere

Rain Bird Corp. says it's making it possible for golf course superintendents to monitor and control golf irrigation systems quickly and efficiently from just about anywhere.

Unlike radio-based remote controls, the MI Series mobile controller’s range isn't limited by radio frequencies licensed for use only on the golf course. Instead it makes use of the availability of the Internet over cellular networks.

The MI, according to Rain Bird, makes these multiple trips to the golf course a thing of the past. Superintendents will be able to activate sprinklers and programs, review site status information, and directly edit the central control sprinkler and program data while away from the irrigation site.

The controller is simple to use for anyone familiar with an Internet browser. First, the controller’s software is installed on a Rain Bird irrigation central control computer. The computer is then connected to the Internet and configured to present information as Web pages to a remote Web browser. Once connected, up to 15 users are able to simultaneously perform remote options, with all activity logged for review.

"Rain Bird‘s MI Series Mobile Controller is the first of its kind to offer users the ability to control and monitor their Rain Bird central control system from virtually anywhere in the world," said David Behrmann, marketing manager. Contact http://www.rainbird.com/golf.

Standard says, "Build your own flagstick."

Standard Golf’s new Build-Your-Own-Flagstick option permits full customization of its Royaline flagsticks with a selection of colors, striping patterns and ferrules.

The custom flagsticks can distinguish a golf course from its competition, allow the course to match flagsticks to local school colors or promote a course’s image and style.

The program uses a Web-interface that gives the choices of base color, striping pattern, stripe color, and ferrule type. Typical delivery time is three weeks. Contact http://www.standardgolf.com.

U.S. Aqua Vac upgrades muck removal

U.S. Aqua Vac Inc. says it now has machines that can remove 20 percent more muck and sludge per day from lakes and ponds on golf courses.

Two powerful vacuums now connect to the Aqua Vac system to remove sediment and heavy sand from the bottoms of ponds. Each method, including trained commercial divers, can move from 300 to 700 cubic square yards of muck a day.

The company says its methods translate to a 70-percent cost savings to customers over the drain-and-dig method. The service can also clean clogged intake pipes, unplug water springs, enhance water quality and reduce odors around water. The company also offers barge and robotic machines on projects of 300 acres or more. Contact http://www.usaquavac.com/index.html.

ProPlus JumpStart promotes turf establishment

Profile Products' new ProPlus JumpStart uses a proprietary formulation that includes beneficial soil bacteria, humic acid and a wetting agent. These ingredients are said to work synergistically to improve water infiltration and retention, and promote faster nutrient uptake and conversion, with up to four months of peak effectiveness.

In addition, the company says it reduces soil compaction and salinity for better root development and reduced nutrient leaching and runoff for better environmental stewardship.

The company recommends a mix of 25 parts water to one part JumpStart approximately 65 gallons per acre. Spray applied, the formula should not be tank mixed with ProPlus Aqua-Phix. Contact http://www.profileproducts.com.
