Michael Honma, GCSAA A superintendent the Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort, is hosting the Turtle Bay Championship in Kahuku (Oahu), Hawaii.

Ruszala honored by GCSA of New England

The GCSA of New England has presented its Distinguished Service Award to Robert Ruszala, GCSAA Class superintendent at Hickory Ridge Country Club, Amherst, Mass.

Ruszala's contributions include: serving as president of the GCSANE in 2000-2001, serving on the board of directors for the GCSANE for 14 years, and president of the New England Regional Turfgrass Foundation.

He was also instrumental in the development of the Joseph Troll Turf Research Center in South Deerfield, has served as chairman of the Nor’easter hospitality room at the annual Golf Industry Show, and is responsible for starting up the GCSANE Toys for Tots program.

Santa Barbara takes IPM Innovator award

The California IPM Innovator Awards have been announced and the city of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department, which includes the Santa Barbara Golf Club has received an award.

Scott Jorgensen is the GCSAA Class A superintendent at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.

According to the California Department of Pesticide regulations, the city has taken a proactive approach to municipal IPM. In January 2004, a formal IPM strategy was adopted to reduce the use of toxic materials, particularly in parks. IPM is used in airport, golf course and street maintenance, for creek and beach protection, and to maintain a nationally accredited rose garden.
