Toro introduces 14-blade reel
The Toro Co. has introduced the newest innovation for its Greensmaster Flex 21 and Flex 18--the industry’s first 14-blade reel.
With more blades and an optimal reel-speed, the 14-blade reel provides a crisper, more consistent cut. In fact, the new blade reel cuts below .100 of an inch without damaging turf, providing golf course superintendents with a faster and more consistent playing surface.
"Toro is always looking for new and innovative solutions," said Helmut Ullrich, marketing manager for Toro Greensmaster products. "By adding more blades and keeping reel-speed constant, we found grass blades to be metered into the reel more efficiently and sheared off more cleanly, resulting in fewer stragglers, healthier turf and a superior ball roll," said Ullrich.
With no need for reel-speed adjustments, the 14-blade reel allows a slightly higher cutting height for healthier greens, without compromising ball-speed. A smoother cut results in a faster and truer ball roll so your course will be tournament-ready whenever needed.
"The new 14-blade reel is the perfect answer for superintendents looking to achieve the best cutting-performance, particularly at low heights of cut. Players will feel the difference," said Ullrich.
The reel is now available to retrofit existing Greensmaster Flex 18 and Flex 21 units. Beginning in fall of 2008, Toro Greensmaster Flex units can be ordered with either an 11-blade or a 14-blade cutting unit. For more, visit http://www.toro.com/14.
Underhill adds LiquidPro applicator
LiquidPro, a new applicator gun for wetting agents, fertilizers and micronutrients, is now available from Underhill International, manufacturer of irrigation products for golf courses and sports fields.
Weighing only 3 pounds, the lightweight LiquidPro is said to be easy to use, UV-protected and chemical resistant. It is constructed from quality components, including a patented Precision Cloudburst nozzle, high-flow composite/stainless steel valve, chemical-resistant siphon/mixing system and high-density poly-bottle with one-quart capacity.
LiquidPro uniformly covers 1,000 square feet of turf in less than a minute with speed according to Underhill. It works with both 3/4- and 1-inch hoses, and a powerful 48 gallons-per-minute syringing nozzle can easily be assembled with LiquidPro’s Cloudburst nozzle and valve.
The patented Cloudburst nozzles are constructed from aircraft aluminum and stainless steel and designed for durability and even distribution of additives. The liquid chamber features a venturi siphon with needle valve so that proper amounts of wetting agent mix with water flow. An adjustable metering dial offers 10 additive settings, including "water only." The metering dial can be removed to prevent tampering with a predetermined setting.
LiquidPro’s high-density poly-bottle features easy-to-read measurements in both fluid ounces and milliliters. Additional 32-ounce poly bottles can be ordered in six-packs to save time by transporting other additives to the site. Contact http://www.underhill.us, 866-863-3744.
GreenJacket offers permeable green covers
GreenJacket has added permeable green covers to help with grow-in.
When heat is wanted to assist the turf and soil in warming up, the permeable grow-in covers use the sun's power to create a greenhouse effect. However, being permeable they allow the turf and soil to breath while retaining moisture. The company says they are perfect for jumpstarting newly established turf and root development and are also good for overnight frost protection.
The covers are made of an uncoated UV-resistant woven poly material that will perform for years. Contact http://www.greenjacket.com/, 888-786-2683.
Outdoor power and turf equipment program goes online
Beginning in September, Walla Walla (Wash.) Community College will begin offering its Outdoor Power Program online as well on campus.
Students on campus will continue to get technical hands-on training while those already employed at a facility and can utilize a mentor such as head technician or shop foreman to guide them through the live examples and teach the "feel" that can not be demonstrated or taught on video. Under the program it will be possible to complete the courses without ever being on campus.
All students will interact each week through a web program called Blackboard which will have mini lectures, industry presentations, and many other activities that will present the fundamentals necessary to pass a national industry certification exam provided by the Equipment and Engine Training Council. OvoControl label amended
The EPA recently amended the OvoControl G label for resident geese. In response to requests from wildlife management professionals, Innolytics revised the label to enhance the use and utility of the product.
Noteworthy label changes include:
- The definition of an "urban area" has been removed and left to the discretion of the applicator.
- The window for consuming OvoControl bait has been shortened to 30 minutes, consistent with bird behavior and reducing observation time.
- The non-target wildlife section has been simplified.
- Redundant observation requirements have been eliminated.
- The acclimation period has been condensed, and.
- Redundant record keeping has been eliminated.
OvoControl G is presently registered for use in resident geese and ducks. The product effectively controls egg hatchability and essentially represents non-hormonal, oral contraception for birds. A complete copy of the new label is available at OvoControl G.
