Jacobsen utility vehicles get an overhaul
Jacobsen has announced a switch to new Kubota diesel engines for all of its diesel-powered Cushman Turf-Trucksters.
The change comes as part of an ongoing effort to improve the quality and functionality of all Jacobsen equipment and will fully comply with new Tier 4 EPA standards.
"The new diesel engines for the Turf-Trucksters are more environmentally conscious and will provide customers with more torque, more comfortable operation, and reduced noise," said Rob Arthur, product manager. "The Trucksters feature the industry's highest payload and are among the most versatile and most productive machines on the market. This switch to newer, better diesel engines will allow them to perform at an even higher level for our customers."
The new Kubota engines operate at a lower sound level, have almost 8 percent more torque in the mid-range (where most typical use occurs), and feature an increased cooling capacity that results in more efficient engine operation and a lower operating temperature.
Additional improvements that will also be made on all new Turf-Trucksters are:
- Tougher, stronger material for axle tubes
- Improved axle tube sealing at the wheel bearing ends
- Zinc plating on the side air screens
- Vibration resistant dash panel instrumentation
- Better relay mounting and sealing of wire harnesses and connections
"Jacobsen is committed to providing turf maintenance professionals with premier turf equipment of the highest quality," Arthur said. "These upgrades to our utility vehicle line will result in more capable machines and better all-around performance."

Rain Bird rotor gets Australia's Smart Approved WaterMark
Rain Bird has received the certification of its 5000 PRS rotor by Australia's Smart Approved WaterMark program. The company says the rotor is the industry's only irrigation system rotor to receive this esteemed certification recognizing only those products that meet the highest standards in water efficiency.
An independent third-party testing facility evaluated the rotor's performance and water-saving features, comparing it to two other competing rotors. The pressure-regulated 5000 PRS Rotor was shown to deliver 15-45 percent water savings compared to non-pressure-regulated rotors currently available. The 5000 PRS Rotor's resulting certification confirms Rain Bird's ongoing commitment to The Intelligent Use of Water and the company's leadership in the irrigation industry.
While the Smart Approved WaterMark program is based in Australia, its certification process has global implications, according to Rain Bird. By choosing products certified by the Smart Approved WaterMark program, people around the globe can do their part to help ensure that irrigation water is used in the most efficient and responsible manner possible.

Toro adds climate-controlled cabs for Groundsmaster
The Toro Co. has announced that all-season cabs with air conditioning and heat for Groundsmaster 4000-D and 4100-D are now available through Canadian manufacturer Jodale Perry.
Studies indicate that controlling the temperature of the operator environment can have a profound positive affect on alertness and safety. One study reported an unexpectedly-large negative impact on operator attentiveness at 81 degrees compared to 70 degrees in a moving vehicle. Drivers missed 50 percent more of the operating tasks presented in the first hour at the moderately raised temperature. Response times were 22 percent slower, on average. "These results provide powerful arguments regarding air conditioning and climate controlled cabs as safety features," said Christopher Anderson, associate marketing manager for commercial equipment.
Though all-season cabs have been available from turf maintenance equipment distributors for years, Jodale Perry now installs the AC system in the cab during their manufacturing process, thus increasing the quality and performance.
