Charlton elected president of ASGCA
Bruce Charlton was elected president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects at the organization’s 62nd annual meeting in Scotland.
Charlton has worked at the Palo Alto-based golf course architecture firm Robert Trent Jones II LLC since his graduation in 1981 from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture. He currently holds the title of president and chief design officer. His courses include Southern Highlands Golf Club, Trans Strait Golf Resort, The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe, Bro Hof Slott Golf Club and Chambers Bay Golf Course.
Grigg Brothers adds to technical staff
Grigg Brothers Foliar Fertilizers has named Michael Steve its technical representative for the Southwest U.S.
Steve will cover Hawaii, California, Nevada, New Mexico, southern Utah, and Mexico. His primary responsibility will be to support the distributor network through product education, fertility recommendations, agronomic support and promotional support.
His first job in the turf industry was a groundskeeper at the Ohio Exposition Center, while he pursued a landscape horticulture degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus. From there he moved to The Davey Tree Co., working 10 years throughout the Midwest, initially as a lawn technician, sales and service representative, and finally as a district manager.
Lesco then hired him as a service center sales manager and later as a product manager; his tenure with the turf and pest-control products company lasted 18 years. His most recent position, before joining Grigg Brothers, was product manager with the Gowan Co., a provider of control products to the agriculture and turf & ornamental industries.
U.S. Composting Council election results
The U.S. Composting Council has added Frank Franciosi, Carrie Gregory and Chuck Wilson to its executive board.
Frank Francoisi, composting department manager at Novozymes North America Inc. was named to the market development committee
Carrie Gregory, compost quality manager for Pierce County recycling and disposal in Puyallup, Wash. is on the professional credentials sub-committee, which is designing a national training and certification program for compost operators and facility managers.
Chuck Wilson, president of A-1 Organics based in Eaton, Colo., is serving on the membership committee.
Ginny Black was re-elected to the board for her fourth term. She is the organics recycling coordinator at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. She has been the chair of the Communications committee for the past nine years.
ScottsMiracle-Gro appoints chief environmental officer
Richard Shank has bee named the chief environmental officer for ScottsMiracle-Gro, and will oversee the implementation of environmental stewardship and corresponding governmental affairs initiatives.
Shank succeeds Rich Martinez, who was named to the newly created position of vice president, North America Sustainability. Martinez's new role will focus on ensuring consensus of sustainability and environmental goals across all of the Company's business operations and functions.
Shank previously served was executive director of the Ohio Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, vice president for environmental business activities with Science Applications International Corp. and director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. He also is a member of the board of the Ohio Environmental Council and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. He has been involved water quality issues as a past member of the National Drinking Water Advisory Council and the Water Quality Board of the International Joint Commission on the Great Lakes.
