Cleary awards scholarships to Rutgers students

At the 19th Annual Rutgers Turf Awards Banquet on Nov. 1, 2008, Cleary Chemical Corporation awarded one thousand dollar scholarships to two second-year students in the Rutgers Professional Golf Turf Management School. The Turfgrass Graduation and Awards Banquet serves as an event to recognize scholarship winners from the two-year, four-year and graduate programs in turf at Rutgers. It also serves as the graduation ceremony for the RPGTMS.

Chad Fetter of Moscow Mills, Mo. is this year’s recipient of the Dr. Paul Sartoretto Memorial Scholarship and has a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. Sartoretto was a leader in the field of turf disease management. The scholarship was created to honor his memory and recognize the academic achievement of a second-year student in the school.

James Wallace of Phoenix, Ariz., is this year’s recipient of the Cleary Chemical Corp. Academic Scholarship and has a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. James currently works as the assistant superintendent at Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. This scholarship is awarded to recognize a second-year student for academic excellence.

Syngenta names Rider as lawn and garden territory manager

Douglas Rider has joined Syngenta Professional Products' Lawn & Garden team as a territory manager. His territory will be southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Previously, Rider was the golf course superintendent at Brandywine Country Club in Wilmington, Del., and is a member of the GCSAA, Philadelphia AGCS, Eastern Shore AGCS, Maryland Turfgrass Council and the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council.

"Being a former superintendent, Doug Rider brings a deep understanding of the intricacies of maintaining a golf course to his position with Syngenta," said Dave Ravel, Syngenta Lawn and Garden. "His experience will be a great benefit to our customers as he helps them diagnose problems and recommend product solutions to fit their needs."
