Par Aide ProTect rake handle
Par Aide has introduced the new ProTect rake handle, an extra-durable, splinter free bunker rake handle that has the strength provided by a traditional fiberglass handle with an ultra-protective, long-lasting thermoplastic coating to reduce the chance for any fiberglass splinters.
The company says its ProTect handle is flexible and fade resistant, offering the best UV protection of any rake handle on the market. The materials are bonded together by heat, not by mechanical adhesives, so there's no worry of it coming off. The ProTect handle will fit with any Par Aide rake head.

Economic challenges produce greener Sprint lineup
The challenge of rising costs for product ingredients, packaging materials and transportation has resulted in a greener, energy-saving lineup of Sprint iron chelate products from Becker Underwood, company officials say.
"Over the past several months, our suppliers had delivered regular notices of significant price increases for raw ingredients and packaging materials, including those specifically used to produce and package our Sprint products," said Joe Lara, product manager for the company's turf and ornamental products. "Transportation costs have continued to rise, as well.
Packaging for the Sprint 330 and Sprint 330+Mn 50-pound will now will be a durable but lighter weight, double-walled, recyclable corrugated cardboard box. The new container has helpful perforated lift slots on the sides of the box to improve user handling, a feature absent on the former fiberboard barrel container. Product packaging weight has been cut by more than 75 percent, reducing same-quantity shipped weights by nearly 9.5 percent.
The Sprint 330 five-pound packaging is changing from a plastic pail to an eco-friendly, high quality, recyclable, pre-printed paper bag, which reduces shipping materials by nearly 42 percent. The company can package 50 percent more product in the same size shipping container, which helps customers more effectively manage shipping costs and warehouse space.
The company's premier Sprint 138 chelated iron also will be packaged in its own recyclable pre-printed paper bag by the end of 2008.
"We intend to seek similar opportunities with other products in our lineup," Lara said.

The Golf Course goes digital
In response to demand and requests from readers, The Golf Course, a source for news of the international golf trade, has responded by going digital.
"While there is still room for traditional printed media" explained editor Trevor Ledger from his Scottish base, "we have received a lot of feedback requesting an online magazine. From hereon in we will be sending out an email newsletter every fortnight (two weeks) with news snippets and stories from across the golf industry; the new Website has now gone live and the full content will be available on there as a free subscription."
Subscription to the eZine is free, and Ledge says fans of The Golf Course need not worry, that it will still contain the easy-to-navigate sections that cover news, developments, maintenance and management. To subscribe, visit www.the-golfcourse.eu.
Curfew buffer zone reduced in five states
Dow AgroSciences has received approval from the Departments of Agriculture in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina to reduce the buffer zone for Curfew soil fumigant to 30 feet from occupied structures. This is in addition to approval of the reduced buffer zone in Florida earlier this year.
The reduction of the buffer zone for Curfew was requested by golf course superintendents and authorized custom applicators, says Dennis Lane, marketing specialist for Curfew.
"The approved 30-foot buffer zone means golf course superintendents now have greater flexibility to protect their turf — especially in critical areas, such as tees and greens," Lane says. "We’ve seen situations where Curfew could only be applied to a portion of a green, for example, which resulted in a visible difference in turf between the treated and untreated portions." For more information contact a Dow AgroSciences sales representative or call 800-255-3726.
