Caterpillar introduces wider mulcher for loaders

Caterpillar's new HM315 mulcher is designed for high productivity when teamed with the C-Series and earlier skid steer loaders and multi terrain loaders equipped with XPS hydraulics.

The 57-inch cutter head and 72-inch overall width enable the mulcher to make full use of the powerful hydraulic system. The HM315 features a dynamically balanced high-speed rotor with 34 tungsten carbide teeth for efficiently cutting vegetation. Three sets of counter-rotating knives mulch materials completely. It has the ability to process brush as big as 8 inches in diameter. Chisel teeth, which can aggressively process vines and soft woods, are also available.

The mulcher also features an axial pump hydraulic motor for reliable and durable operation. An hydraulically operated front hood allows both trees and dense vegetation to be processed, and the adjustable pusher bar helps control trees during felling. Adjustable shoes allow for easy depth control while keeping the carbide mulching teeth out of the dirt.

Caterpillar says its mulchers are ideal for land clearing applications whether for building site preparation, right of way clearing, forestry plantation maintenance, maintaining and building fire lines, or shredding pruned material for organic waste reduction. GreenGolfUSA.com launched

A new sponsor-supported Web site devoted to environmental stewardship for golf courses has been launched by EnviroLogic Resources Inc.,a Portland, Ore, consulting firm with a long list of golf-course clients.

The goal of http://www.GreenGolfUSA.com is to help the golf industry in its efforts to go green. "We want this site to be one-stop shopping for golf-course superintendents and turf managers who are aiming to meet environmental goals. It has all the tools they need to create a comprehensive integrated pest management plan," said Tom Calabrese, owner of the company.

The key feature of the site is the GreenGolf IPM tool based on environmental stewardship guidelines from the Oregon GCSA. The tool also draws on other sources, such as the city of Portland’s Parks Department Pest Management Policy, which complies with the federal Endangered Species Act.

"Golf courses are working hard to meet environmental principles and to create habitats that serve the needs of golfers and are also friendly to wildlife and protective of water resources," Calabrese said. "This web-based tool will make it easier, faster, and less expensive for turf managers to create and maintain a plan," he said.

"We hope by making this a free service, more superintendents will document the environmental stewardship efforts at their golf course," Calabrese said.

In addition to the IPM planning tool, the site includes electronic resources, such as current turfgrass research, regulatory updates, and a link to download guidelines from the OGCSA.

Dump-pro goes compact

Standard Hamilton Co. Inc. has made a new addition to its patented line of dump beds ofr pickup trucks.

The new, compact Dump-Pro fits into smaller pickups or larger width trucks with 6 foot or longer beds.  Like the popular full-size Dump-Pro, this new dump insert is lightweight (282 pounds), features a steel-reinforced, industrial weight, non-rusting polyethylene dump body and winch-driven drive system that requires no expensive hydraulics to operate.  Its lighter weight and removability saves fuel.

The Dump-Pro enables a user to go from pickup to dump truck in minutes using the Quick Change-Out option.  Rated at 3,000 pounds hauling, 2,700 pounds dumping capacity, the compact model handles 1.1 cubic yards of material with the basic unit, or 3 yards with the Hi-Sides option.

The unit features a 60-degree dumping angle, so everything that goes in comes out.  When the job is done, simply release the clamping system, disconnect the power with the removable connector, remove a single bolt and slide the unit out of the pickup. Contact http://www.dump-pro.com/.

DuPont's Acelepryn gets expedited California registration

DuPont Professional Products says its Acelepryn insecticide is registered for use in California after an accelerated review and approval process.

The company says the product is proven to control all key turf-damaging white grub species and other pests such as the black turfgrass ataenius and the black cutworm, Acelepryn has already been quickly adopted in the Midwest and Northeast.

One early application of Acelepryn is said to control grubs and surface-feeding insects such as cutworms, webworms, weevils and billbugs.  Professionals can eliminate at least one treatment to control surface feeders and save time and money later in the season.

Acelepryn was granted reduced-risk status by the EPA in April 2007 for applications to turfgrass.  It has been tested in independent studies and proven to have minimal impact on beneficial arthropods, birds, fish, bees and mammals.  In addition, Acelepryn has the lowest water solubility of any white grub control product. Milliken acquires SandMat

Milliken & Co. has acquired Western Nonwoven Inc.’s geotextile business and fire retardant barrier assets out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and now owns and operates the Sandmat business.

Sandmat geosynthetic bunker liners are non-woven geotextiles that provide unique properties for the golf course development and remediation community.

Milliken will continue to manufacture and sell its Paladin fire retardant barrier products and will support Western Nonwoven’s existing customers by manufacturing Western’s Esyntial Safe products under the Paladin brand.

Acquisition of these two specialty non-woven based businesses further strengthens Milliken’s specialty non-woven capabilities.  Eric Knauss, President of Milliken’s Performance Products Division, commented, "This purchase is consistent with Milliken’s intent to grow in the non-wovens arena and will serve to expand market and customer access."
