BASF introduces Onetime for broadleaf and grassy weeds

BASF Turf & Ornamentals has launched Onetime herbicide, which combines new liquid-quinclorac-based Drive  XLR8 herbicide with MCPP-P and dicamba for control of more than 70 annual broadleaf and grassy weeds.

Onetime herbicide is a soluble liquid formation that the company says controls challenging weeds, including crabgrass, foxtail, kikuyugrass, clover, dandelion, henbit, spurge and torpedograss. It is labeled for use on golf courses, residential and commercial lawns, athletic fields, parks, playgrounds, cemeteries and school grounds.

Its Drive XLR8 component provides fast entry into the plant, rainfastness in 30 minutes and more effective and consistent control of grassy and broadleaf weeds than other products. Onetime can be tank mixed with most other commonly used products, including pendimethalin-based Pendulum herbicide to enhance residual control. Onetime does not contain 2, 4-D. RollerPro sprinkler handles newly seeded turf

Underhill International is now offering the RollerPro portable sprinkler base with solid brass impact sprinklers to provide supplemental irrigation to dry spots and newly-seed turf on golf course greens, tees and other landscaped sites.

The portable base includes a 22-inch wide stainless steel roller that works with both 3/4-inch and 1-inch hoses. The weighted design provides a stable field position and prevents movement during use.

The brass impact sprinklers are available in six models ranging from 13 to 54 gallons per minute.  Full and part-circle heads offer 57 to 96 feet of coverage at 80 psi and have 3/4-, 1- and 1 1/4-inch MPT inlets. They also have stainless steel drive springs and chemical-resistant bearing seals for lasting durability and value. The sprinkler base and impact heads are sold separately.

John Deere Golf launches grass seed line

John Deere Golf has announced a new seed line, Lesco Supreme golf seed, specifically for use by golf course superintendents.

"We’re excited about this launch, as it’s our first agronomic product introduction since we acquired Lesco," said Steve Vincent, North American golf sales manager.

According to the company, the seed line incorporates advanced generation turfgrass varieties for fairways, tees, greens and roughs including elite, low-mow Kentucky bluegrasses, gray leaf spot resistant perennial ryegrasses, and high endophyte fescues for improved drought tolerance and insect resistance.

Also featured are creeping bentgrass varieties with excellent National Turfgrass Evaluation Program performance, outstanding seedling vigor and improved disease resistance.

"I’m especially pleased that Authority creeping bentgrass scored a Mean Turf Quality Average of 6.4 over four years in the NTEP Greens Test that has just been completed," said Evelyn Dennis, category manager for seed. "This score puts Authority in the top ranked group of creeping bentgrass cultivars in this trial."

Additionally, products for overseeding dormant bermudagrass are also available, as well as low-maintenance wildflower and native grass mixtures for out-of-play areas. All turfgrass seed in the Supreme product line is selected, produced, harvested and blended with the highest standards:

  • Produced directly with seed growers under contracts that demand high quality standards
  • Selected from top turf breeding programs to meet the needs of customers
  • Submitted through at least one cycle of testing in the NTEP, as well as regional university trials
  • Tested at least twice to ensure all seed is free of undesirable seeds

The new product line is available through John Deere Golf Stores-on-Wheels,
and sales representatives, as well as John Deere Landscapes locations.

No-drill, quick-connect tree treatment from ArborSystems

ArborSystems' new no-drill QC Tree Treatment System is said to be an easy, fast, and tree-friendly way to treat almost any tree in five minutes or less. The trunk-injection application process does not require drilling, and there is no waiting for chemical uptake or guarding of capsules.

"Direct-Inject QC system is the only trunk injection method that does not
involve drilling holes in trees as part of the application process," said
Chip Doolittle, president. "It protects the tree's health and prevents long-term wounding. Drilled injection holes compartmentalize, permanently damaging a tree's ability to move nutrients. Repeated drilling can seriously harm a tree's health. With the Direct-Inject
method, multiple and annual treatments can be made without injuring the
tree."

Specialized injection tips are available for hardwoods, conifers, and palms. In addition, ArborSystems provides a variety of tree injection systems and chemicals designed to meet a broad range of tree care needs—including insecticides, fungicides, nutrients and tree growth regulators. Third edition of environmental development book published

The American Society of Golf Course Architects has published the third edition of "An Environmental Approach to Golf Course Development." All three editions have been written and edited by ASGCA environmental committee chairman Bill Love, ASGCA.

The full-color, 57-page book includes background and instructions for anyone involved in the development of a new layout or the remodeling of an existing golf course.

"The new edition has been very well-received," said Bruce Charlton, ASGCA president. "I’m proud of the work ASGCA members have done that is described in the case studies in the book. These cases studies spotlight, for example, courses situated on brownfield sites and courses remodeled in areas with sensitive environmental challenges. These and other examples really tell golf’s environmental story."

The book includes 18 new case studies from throughout North America that illustrate success stories in the industry. It also features a dramatically expanded reference section, listing seminal books and important Web sites for those who need further information on this topic.

The book is available for download at http://www.asgca.org/about/pubs.cfm or a printed copy can be purchased from ASGCA for $10. Quantity discounts may be also be arranged. For ordering information, visit the ASGCA Web site at www.asgca.org or call (262) 786-5960.
