You've got questions -- GCSAA experts have the answers. Starting Nov. 1, GCSAA members will have online access to experts in a number of industry categories through GCM's Ask the Experts. Members will be able to view previously answered questions and submit new questions to a panel of industry experts in categories such as irrigation, herbicides and equipment. After a question has been received, members will be notified via e-mail when the answer to their question is available online. Check out GCM's newest online, interactive feature next Wednesday!

GCSAA 2007 volunteer application deadline nearing. The association is currently recruiting volunteers for 2007 committees and task groups. You can make a difference in your association -- the deadline to apply for volunteer service is Nov. 3.

Chapter delegates discuss revenue sources, membership growth. The exchange of ideas and comments during the fall Chapter Delegates Meeting, Oct. 13-15, focused primarily on three items: the development of long-term revenue streams to fund programs and services; growing GCSAA membership; and positioning GCSAA and its membership classes in the marketplace. Certification Committee reviews current Code of Standards. During its recent meeting at GCSAA Headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., the GCSAA Certification Committee made two recommendations for changes to the Certification Code of Standards.

Certification challenge. Of all GCSAA Class A members, only 22 percent hold the prestigious designation of CGCS. See a list of the superintendents who have recently earned or renewed their certification status and research how you too can elevate your career through this program.

Advanced Weed Management

The Advanced Weed Management seminar, taught by Bert McCarty,
Ph.D., professor of horticulture specializing in turfgrass science and
management at Clemson University and Fred Yelverton, Ph.D., professor of crop science at North Carolina State University, will provide in-depth information on weed management and plant growth regulator use with an emphasis on
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.

Seminar topics include biology, ecology and life cycles of major turfgrass weeds. In addition, McCarty and Yelverton will discuss herbicide families, the development of herbicide resistance by weeds and environmental considerations in herbicide use, along with tough-to-control turfgrass weeds.

GCSAA education programs are funded by The Environmental Institute for Golf. Regional seminars are presented in partnership with Jacobsen, a Textron Co., and webcasts are presented in partnership with Syngenta Professional Products.

Easing airport stress. A number of European and Asian airports are being designed to offer cutting-edge services that will entice travelers to linger. One notable airport is Seoul Incheon, which has onsite spas, massage centers, hospitals, pharmacies and upscale shops. It also runs runs local tours and a nearby golf course.
