Five industry leaders selected to The Environmental Institute for Golf Advisory Council.David Pillsbury, president of PGA Tour Golf Course Properties; Owen Larkin, president of the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, Mass.; Bill Kubly, CEO of Landscapes Unlimited LLC and chairman of the Institute’s board of trustees; Jack R. Harrell Jr., CEO of Harrell's Fertilizer Inc.; and Rafael Martinez, president of Republic Capital Corp., will serve on the advisory council, which provides guidance to the Institute's board of trustees in the areas of outreach, fundraising and strategic planning. The advisory council is headed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman.
GCSAA partners with allies to communicate to employers. GCSAA will join the Club Managers Association of America and the PGA of America to distribute a letter to golf facilities that employ professionals from all three associations. The letter outlines the joint activities the organizations are pursuing to benefit their members and the game of golf. The goal is to demonstrate the high value of professional membership and the role that the three organizations play in advancing the game.
GCSAA reaches out to youth at Tiger Woods Learning Center. Lanie Griffin, GCSAA's career services manager, will be giving a presentation on careers in golf course management at the Tiger Woods Learning Center, Feb. 20 in Anaheim, Calif. Kevin Neal, CGCS at Anaheim Hills Golf Club, will be on hand to discuss the day and the life of a superintendent. Two hundred plus students from grades 9 through 12 are expected to attend the program.
The Answer Zone offers GCSAA information at one convenient location. At past GCSAA shows, member and non-member services and resources have been located at various sites on the show floor. This year, the Answer Zone, located in Hall E of the Anaheim Convention Center, will provide everything from career assistance with résumés and job searches, to informative workshops, to membership resources, chapter guidance, certification answers, book signings, registration and more. Find out how wetting agents work and what affects their performance. Results from a GCSAA/USGA Green Section wetting agent study are also examined to help superintendents evaluate the appropriate wetting agents for their specific climates.
