Submit GCSAA Research Grant Program proposals by Friday. The mission of GCSAA's research program is to fund new applied agronomic, environmental and regulatory research that will benefit superintendents and the courses they manage. Up to 10 new research projects will be funded through this program, beginning this spring. The request for proposals for the 2007 program is available at www.eifg.org – proposals are due Friday, Jan. 12. Michigan State professor selected for USGA Green Section Award. Joe Vargas Jr., Ph.D., a renowned turfgrass scientist and a professor at Michigan State University in the department of plant pathology for the past 38 years, has been named the winner of the 2007 Green Section Award by the United States Golf Association. The award is given for contributions to golf through work with turfgrass and is determined annually by a distinguished panel of experts in the field of turfgrass research. Vargas will receive the award Feb. 23 at the USGA Green Section Education Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
