GCSAA and Golf Digest announce the 2006 Environmental Leaders in Golf awards. The overall winner, Stone Mountain Golf Club in Stone Mountain, Ga., and CGCS Anthony L. Williams, will be featured in the February issue of GCM as well as in an upcoming issue of Golf Digest magazine. The overall winner was selected from among the three national and one international winners. Additional honors were given to the top GCSAA chapter entries and others whom the judges deemed worthy of special recognition.

2007 Compensation and Benefits Survey is now under way. All A and SM members have until Feb. 18 to participate in this important survey, which is conducted every other year to capture trends in salary, benefits, operations and other information.  Participants can receive a free copy of the results and .25 service points. Education spotlight of the week

Great Lakes regional seminars: Jan. 22 and 23, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Bloomington, Minn.

Localized Dry Spots on the Golf Course will discuss the cause, detection and management of LDS caused by water-repellent soils. This seminar and Managing Turfgrass Root Systems in the North are taught by Keith Karnok, Ph.D., professor at the University of Georgia in the department of crop and soil sciences.

Managing Turfgrass Root Systems in the North will specifically address factors affecting cool-season turfgrass root growth and how they can be managed - which can be important in developing IPM and BMP programs.

Physical Problems of Turfgrass Soils: Identification and Correction will stress how to identify and alleviate soil physical problems, with emphasis on coarse and fine textured soils.  This seminar is taught by Robert N. Carrow, Ph.D., professor of turfgrass science at the University of Georgia and Paul E. Rieke, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of turfgrass management at Michigan State University.

GCSAA education programs are funded by The Environmental Institute for Golf. Regional seminars are presented in partnership with Jacobsen, a Textron Co., and webcasts are presented in partnership with Syngenta Professional Products.
