Jay NallsNalls wins EGR Award for advocacy efforts

Jay Nalls, the Class A superintendent at Norbeck Country Club, Rockville, Md., has been selected to receive GCSAA's 2012 Excellence in Government Relations Award. Government relations priorities set for 2012

The GCSAA Board of Directors has approved the 2012 GCSAA Priority Issues Agenda, which outlines the association's legislative and regulatory priorities. This year's agenda includes six areas: the Americans with Disabilities Act; fertilizers; labor and immigration; pesticides; value of golf; and water management. It was also updated to include GCSAA and member activities regarding the H-2B visa program, Clean Water Act NPDES pesticide general permit, and federal disaster tax relief.

Partners support GCSAA member programs

Twenty-five companies in the golf course management industry have recommitted their support of GCSAA by participating in the partner recognition program. The Toro Co. and John Deere Golf remain at the Platinum level, while Syngenta and Jacobsen reaffirm Gold level support in the program's fifth year.

Virginia GCSA creates BMPs document

After two years of work and $60,000 of money raised, the Virginia GCSA's "Environmental Best Management Practices for Virginia's Golf Courses," document is complete. Thanks to help from the chapter, affiliated groups in Virginia, the chapter's government relations committee (headed by Class A member Peter McDonough) and GCSAA's contributions, the document will help superintendents, owners, golfers and other stakeholders understand the use of BMPs for the protection of environmental quality.
