The Northwest Illinois GCSA is offering two new scholarships to its members this year, specifically for Class C and Class EM members. The new scholarships, titled Assistant and Equipment Manager Certification Scholarship, award the successful individuals financial assistance to work towards either the GCSAA Assistant Superintendent Certificate Series, or the GCSAA Turf Equipment Technician Certificate Program.
The rules for the scholarships are as follows:
- Individual must be a current NWIGCSA member
- Individual must have been a NWIGCSA member for at least a full year prior, and have attended one of the monthly meetings during that time
- Individual must work at a facility with a current NWIGCSA Class A or B member
- Individual must also be a current member of GCSAA
The winning individuals must use the received funds for either study materials or testing for the Assistant Superintendent Certificate Series, or for Level 1 or Level 2 of the Turf Equipment Technician Certificate Program. One Class C member and one Class EM member will be selected as winning recipients of the scholarship. The winners will be announced March 4 at Rich Harvest Farms during the NWIGCSA March Meeting; hosted by 19-year GCSAA member and Rich Harvest Farms golf course superintendent Jeff VerCautren.
This is a fantastic endeavor and direct benefit for members of the Northwest Illinois GCSA. Credit to the NWIGCSA board in creating these unique scholarships for these important membership classifications. Funding for the scholarships was made possible by the John Buck Memorial in conjunction with J.W. Turf.
