Annual meeting season is upon us in the South Central region. Many chapters in this region have scheduled in person meetings to conduct this important event. Some chapters have opted to have their annual meeting virtually because of the pandemic. Regardless of how your chapter has decided to have their meeting, it is important that each member does their best to attend. Many members have decided to return to board service or become a first time candidate for board service and they will need your support to help lead your chapter.
I feel strongly that each member should consider serving their chapter in some capacity during their career because you will get more from serving than you will give in service. Chapter leadership will make you a better time manager and a better communicator, both skills that are necessary to be a great golf course superintendent. It will also help individuals with leadership skills that are also necessary at the golf course. n my opinion, chapter service will also help people become more marketable when seeking new employment.
The main objective of the annual meeting is to keep you chapter strong with leadership and member engagement and this cannot be achieved if you do not participate. So, I encourage everyone to clear your schedule for one day so that you can participate at your chapter’s annual meeting and let your vote count.
