Cinnabar Hills superintendent Brian Boyer elected to head association in 2019
The Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California (GCSANC) hosted their annual meeting on Jan. 14 at Bay Club StoneTree in Novato, Calif. The meeting was attended by nearly 70 members and guests of the association.
Cinnabar Hills superintendent Brian Boyer was elected president of GCSANC and will lead the organization in 2019. He will be assisted by Vice President Pete Bachman from The Links at Spanish Bay and Secretary/Treasurer Josh Lewis of Almaden Country Club.
Other GCSANC board members include Phil Brown of Ewing Irrigation, Josh Clevenger of Claremont Country Club, Gavin Dickson of Tehama Golf Club, Connor Galea of San Francisco Golf Club, Peter Galea of Farmload, Thomas Slevin of Napa Golf Course and Brett Thornsbury of Cordevalle Golf Club. Coby Byers of TurfStar was elected Affiliate Director.
Dustin McIntosh of The FountainGrove Club in Santa Rosa, Calif. was awarded GCSANC Superintendent of the Year. Dustin has led the club back to prominence after it was destroyed during the Napa fire in October of 2017.

- Gary Ingram of Metropolitan Golf Links – GCSANC President’s Award
- Ed Bale of Northwood Golf Course – Excellence in Turfgrass Award for Public Facilities
- Scott Stambaugh of Peninsula Country Club – Excellence in Turfgrass Award for Private Facilities
- Dave Davies of Oakhurst Country Club – George Santana Distinguished Service Award
- Mike Parks of Wilbur Ellis – Bert Graves Affiliate Merit Award
The keynote speaker for the event was Ryan Gregg, Director of Rules and Competition for the Northern California Golf Association. Ryan spoke on the newly revised USGA Rules of Golf as well as course marking.
A special thanks goes to outgoing President Stacy Wallace who also played host to the meeting. Stacy provided outstanding leadership during his year as President and continued to move the association in a positive direction. His vision and efforts will be missed.
