The 2009 Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards, profiled in this issue of GCM, are yet another blow to the notion that implementing earth-friendly maintenance practices on the golf course can bust a budget. For the second time in the program’s history, the superintendent at a nine-hole facility is the overall winner, and the story of how Terry Stratton accomplishes so much with so little at Little River (Calif.) Inn Golf and Tennis Resort offers plenty of good ideas for other superintendents. Also, we profile the winner of the President’s Award for Environmental Leadership, Anthony Williams, CGCS. This month’s cover photo features Newport Dunes GC in Port Aransas, Texas, managed by 19-year GCSAA member Jim Brown, CGCS, another national ELGA winner this year.
