Charlie Sifford, the hard-charging, cigar-chomping golfer who broke professional golf's color barrier in the early 1960s and became the first African-American to win on the PGA Tour in 1967, is the winner of GCSAA's 2007 Old Tom Morris Award. In this issue of GCM, Senior Staff Writer Terry Ostmeyer profiles Sifford, his struggles to integrate golf and his thoughts on the modern game. We also take an in-depth look at the tools and products essential to today's golf course technician. This month's cover photo was prepared by Roger Mastroianni and is courtesy of Charlie Sifford.
