Each March, GCSAA welcomes chapter leaders from across North America to take part in the two-day Chapter Leaders/Executives Symposium at the association’s headquarters in Lawrence, Kan.
I don’t say it lightly when I often state this is one of my favorite events of the year. The information shared during the two days offers something for every chapter and attendee, regardless of the size of the chapter, or how long the member has been involved. It’s also a great way to meet many of the dedicated chapter leaders for the first time, as well as catch up with peers from across the U.S. and Canada.
The event is set up to allow attendees to become a highly successful team leader, improve the chapter experience, and understand the components of successful chapters to name just a few.
This year’s event hit on each of these, and more.
Between various leadership trainings, chapter success stories, discovering GCSAA programs, and sharing initiatives between peers, the event by all accounts was a huge success. Like previous years, I have a few concepts I’m looking forward to sharing with chapters leaders who were unable to attend this year.
This year’s event was special as we said thank you to Tenia Workman, the executive director of the Georgia GCSA since 2002. Tenia has elevated the entire profession through her work in Georgia and has had a tremendous impact on chapters across the country. Through her passion and leadership, she has already left an indelible mark on the industry. Everyone continues to wish her well during her final year as the GGCSA executive director and into her retirement beginning next year. Thank you, Tenia!
Strong local chapters have always been crucial to GCSAA’s success, and this event continues to better the entire golf course management industry.
