Grasshopper says its Aera-vator promotes healthier turf on golf courses. Its oscillating, forged steel tines penetrate and fracture soil, encouraging root development, while improving drainage in low spots, relieving compaction and aerating turf without prior irrigation. Grasshopper says the turf is available immediately after use, leaving no cores to clean up. The Aera-vator is compatible with Grasshopper Model 618 and all of the 700 and 900 Series. The Toro Co. has upgraded its HydroJect high-velocity water injection system to strengthen aeration programs at golf courses that use effluent water or water with high salt content. The Toro HydroJect, originally introduced in 1991, aerates turf with a high-velocity water injection system that penetrates down to as much as 8 inches with clean, evenly spaced holes, leaving the green ready for immediate play. Toro says the upgraded unit’s Kohler 27-hp engine adds versatility, flexibility, durability and power. It offers four spacing control settings (1.5, 3, 4.5 and 6 inches). Depending on spacing and speed, an experienced operator can aerate up to 26,000 square feet/hour. Contact the Toro Co., (800) 803-8676 (www.toro.com/hydroject). White Metal Golf has a new version of its two-piece cup, the 007. The company now has a patent and says it has perfected the base and crown design that combines the strength and sound of metal with the paint-free convenience of plastic. The 007 features a powder-coated aluminum base for corrosion resistance, durability and a traditional ball-drop tone. The bottom half can double as a practice green cup. Its unique slotted ferrule sleeve works with all common ferrules and lets sand and debris drain through to prevent flagsticks from sticking. The replaceable polycarbonate crown is pure white and thoroughly reinforced, giving the 007 a freshly painted appearance with no maintenance, the company says. The 82.5 percent spray-dried chlorothalonil product is a dry granular formulation that readily disperses in the spray tank. According to the company, a key benefit of this formulation is its re-suspensibility in water. It is packaged in a resealable 5-pound, acre-increment container. Echo fungicides control more than 75 turf and ornamental diseases, including dollar spot, brown patch, algal scum, gray leaf spot and gray snow mold. It is an effective preventive for many diseases of ornamentals, including rust, anthracnose, leaf blotch, scab, leafspot, powdery mildew and black spot. Miller Aquatic Technologies has a new line of aquatic weed-harvesting equipment for easy, ecologically friendly removal of weeds from lakes and ponds. The MAT-H4 Aquatic Weed Harvester cuts a 4-foot-wide swath through vegetation mats at a depth of 4 feet. Its head conveyor transports the cut weed into a holding conveyor with 100 cubic feet of capacity; harvested weeds are unloaded via an articulated rear conveyor. The heavy-duty paddlewheel propulsion system provides for easy maneuverability and directional control and the high-speed cutting system is hydraulically protected from impact damage. The entire harvesting head is freely suspended and outfitted with an additional set of shock absorbers for protection. Contact Miller Aquatic Technologies (www.milleraquatics.com). Arnco, supplier of flatproofing products for off-road vehicles, has introduced QuikGel, a self-sealing polyurethane liner that reduces downtime from flat tires by providing protection from punctures up to 1⁄4 inch in diameter. QuickGel was the result of three years in development and is a lighter alternative to the company’s line of polyurethane flatproofing fill materials. Arnco says that QuikGel offers superior protection and coverage to the middle of the sidewall and has extra shoulder coverage for lateral punctures, optimized coverage in high-risk areas of the tire and maximum protection in the tread area versus the tread center line. According to Arnco, the product is ideal for skid steers, agriculture, telehandlers, golf cars, lawn/garden, ATV and other applications where lighter weight is needed. The diary, formulated by superintendents for superintendents, is a 530-page one-stop recording system designed to boost efficiencies in the documentation process and help superintendents better manage their day-to-day operations. Each day’s entry includes tables and check-boxes, which enable superintendents to keep track of what work has been done around the course — changing holes, mowing, bunker maintenance, chemical and fertilizer applications, or irrigation practices and maintenance. There is also room to record weather data (temperature, wind direction, rainfall, humidity) general comments about maintenance, course preparations and meetings with vendors and visitors. Through a combination of design and material technology, FitLogic allows wearers to adjust their eyewear at four different points to match their own custom fit profile. Uvex FitLogic incorporates an innovative frame design with a cushioned, lightweight browbar that adjusts to any face shape. Soft and flexible with spring-like action, it has enough tension to fit comfortably on wide faces and securely on narrow faces. A pioneering nosepiece design rotates 360 degrees, pivots, and slants in and out to provide a precise fit for almost any nose bridge. Made of optically perfected polycarbonate, FitLogic lenses block 99.9 percent of UV rays. Contact Uvex, (www.uvex.com). Turbo TeeJet Duo and DG TwinJet spray nozzles are both designed to provide thorough plant coverage and are the latest additions to the TeeJet line of spray products. Featuring a dual flat spray pattern, the Turbo TeeJet Duo provides better canopy penetration and coverage than single flat spray nozzles and produces larger droplets than other dual spray nozzles for greater drift control, the company says. The operating pressure range for the versatile TT Duo is 15-90 psi and a 60-, 90- or 120-degree included angle between spray patterns can be used depending on tip configuration. The DG TwinJet provides good leaf coverage and canopy penetration. The nozzle uses a pre-orifice in conjunction with a dual orifice to create two identical flat spray patterns with a 60-degree included spray angle between them. The nozzle produces finer droplets than the TT Duo but larger droplets than standard twin-spray nozzles to help minimize drift. DG TwinJet nozzles have an operating pressure range of 30-60 psi. Bos Sod Farms Inc. now offers Poa annua sod with Northwest Poa greens sod. The company says the sod makes an excellent choice for sodding newly constructed greens or renovated greens in climatic regions that favor Poa annua. During the wet winter months, Northwest Poa retains good color and growth, whereas bentgrass wants to shut down. Northwest Poa has been propagated from native Poa annua cores, which originated from a carefully selected Poa source. This Poa is well adapted to be mowed at greens heights and has limited flowering characteristics. Turf managers now have another option when resurfacing greens. Northwest Poa is naturally adapted to the West coast climate. Contact Bos Sod Farms, (www.bossod.com). John Deere has added a new series to its Gator utility vehicle lineup, the Traditional, or Dickson has added the Pressure Data Logger with Digital Display and SD Flash Memory Card to its current line of instrumentation.
