Gregory A. Day, 51, died July 7, 2005. When Mr. Day joined GCSAA in 1988, he was superintendent at Pinehurst (N.C.) Hotel & CC. He remained with ClubCorp. Inc. up to the time of his death, when he was superintendent at Spring Valley Lake CC in Victorville, Calif. Survivors include three brothers, Thomas, David and Richard Mason; two nephews; two nieces; and a sister, Karen Wolff, 6320 Wolff Road, Medina, OH 44256.

Paul Schurtz, 84, died Dec. 4, 2005. A member of GCSAA since 1946, Mr. Schurtz was the winner of the association’s golf championship in 1951 and won his division in the championship six times between 1968 and 1990. Mr. Schurtz followed the career path of his father, William Ray Schurtz, who was greens superintendent and a charter member at Scotia CC in Ohio from 1924 to 1944. His stepson, Paul Szlasa, is also a member of GCSAA and is assistant superintendent at Palm Beach (Fla.) CC. Mr. Schurtz worked at a number of clubs, including the Ironton and Worthington Hills country clubs in Ohio, Tug Valley CC in West Virginia, Great Gorge Playboy Club and Panther Valley CC, both in New Jersey. He and his second wife, Paula, co-owned Pine Lakes CC in Jacksonville, Fla., where he managed course operations for six years. When he and his partner sold Pine Lakes, Mr. Schurtz went into semi-retirement as superintendent at Pine Meadows in Central Florida. Condolences may be sent to Paula Schurtz, 2713 N.
