Athletes from around the world are heading to China this month for the 2008 Summer Olympics. They’re hopeful for two things: gold medals and instant fame.

As a member of the USA women’s national soccer team, Brandi Chastain achieved both. The gold medals came in 1996 (Atlanta) and 2004 (Athens). The fame came in 1999 when she ripped off her jersey to celebrate her World Cup-winning penalty kick. Chastain’s shirtless celebration appeared on the covers of Time, Sports Illustrated and Newsweek.

Chastain, now retired from competitive soccer, has been playing golf for more than 30 years. She started playing as a way to spend time with her grandfather.

"There’s not a course that I’ve been on that I didn’t enjoy being on. Just being outside, hitting the ball, walking the course… I don’t care if it’s the most beautiful course in the world or my local municipal course. It’s just nice to be out there.

I love (superintendents). I’ve met a couple of them that do other fields — they do football fields and soccer fields. My hat’s off to them because I know what it means to have a nice field, especially for soccer. It’s amazing the type of work that they can do on the golf course."
