Attilio Albanese, 89, died Feb. 7, 2009. Born in Italy in 1919, Mr. Albanese, a 51-year GCSAA member, served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He first began working at Pine Brook Golf Course in Gloversville, N.Y., as a caddie. In 1954, he moved to Springfield, Vt., to help construct Crown Point Country Club, where he worked for 34 years. In 1988, Mr. Albanese became semi-retired on paper but worked to design and construct the former Alban Hills Golf Course in Johnstown, N.Y., now known as Fox Run. A member of the Elks Lodge, the VFM, the Moose Lodge, Catholic War Veterans and the Professional Golfers Association, he also participated in his local GCSAA chapter, the Northeast GCSA. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Anthony Albanese, William Albanese, Rudolph Albanese, Lillian Doremus, James Albanese and Louis “Toddy” Albanese. Mr. Albanese’s survivors include three sons, Paul Albanese, Carl Albanese and John Albanese; two brothers, Mario Albanese and Carl Albanese; two sisters, Norma Burell and Inez Rooney; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his wife, Clara Albanese, 126 Alban Hills Lane, Johnstown, NY 12095-6708.
