Recognizing chapter community involvement
I just returned from the Rhode Island Community Food Bank with Bob Barrow, who was responsible for spearheading a food drive for the Rhode Island GCSA. We presented the Rhode Island Community Food Bank with food and ($460.00) that our chapter members contributed at our December meeting at Ledgemont Country Club.
The food contributed to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank comes from growers, producers, manufacturers, community food drives, distributors, retailers and food service establishments. Volunteers sort and check the food, which is distributed to food pantries, community meal sites, residential programs, which then feeds low income families, single parent families, battered women and children, working poor, elderly, homeless and the unemployed. I can’t begin to tell you the satisfaction we felt when we made our donation.
This year we will once again support the Rhode Island Food Bank, and along with the Golf Course Managers Association of Cape Cod, will continue to support the Station Fire Fund through the Rhode Island Council of Churches. Additionally, we are investigating the possibility of donating to the Rhode Island Blood Center at one of our monthly meetings.
