About the instructor
Thomas A. Nikolai, Ph.D., spent 10 years working on golf courses prior to entering the world of turfgrass research in 1989. He earned a doctorate at Michigan State University in 2002. If you currently lightweight roll your greens, mulch tree leaves into your rough or don't have any golfers wearing metal spikes, it is due in part to results from Nikolai’s research. He is author of the book, The Superintendents Guide to Controlling Putting Green Speed, and is world renowned as the “Doctor of Green Speed” due to his numerous studies that investigate putting green cultural and mechanical practices. He has given hundreds of turfgrass management presentations on five continents, nine countries and 32 states. In 2003, Nikolai was voted The Outstanding Faculty Member by his Michigan State University students. He is also the creator, coordinator and host of the Turfgrass Talk Show and has taught a number of webcasts for GCSAA.
