STMA honors presented

The Sports Turf Managers Association has named the recipients of its Founders Awards.

Floyd Perry, owner of Grounds Maintenance Services, Orlando, Fla., received the Dick Ericson award, which is given to a sports turf manager who positively impacts the sports turf industry and exhibits effective team leadership.

Jeff Fowler from Penn State Cooperative Extension received the Dr. William H. Daniel Award, which acknowledges significant contributions to the sports turf industry through research, teaching and extension outreach.

The George Toma Golden Rake Award, which acknowledges an individual's strong work ethic and job performance, was presented to Jim Wiggins from the Tomball Independent School District in Tomball, Texas.

The Harry C. Gill Memorial Award was presented to Bob Christofferson of the Seattle Mariners. The Gill Award recognizes an individual for their hard work in the sports turf industry and acknowledges their dedication and service to the STMA.


Dow AgroSciences announces personnel changes

Mark Urbanowski is returning to the turf and ornamental business as new senior marketing specialist. He replaces Scott Eicher, who has elected to return to the field as a sales representative. Eicher held the marketing post since 1997.

Urbanowski, who will be responsible for managing the turf and ornamental herbicide product line, has been with Dow AgroSciences for more than 16 years.

Doug Van Vooren has been named district sales manager for Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington. He has been with Dow for 24 years and is replacing Lisa Bostock, who has taken another position within the company.

Patrick Bell is the new sales representative for the lawn care, golf and nursery industries in eastern Florida, south of Palm Coast Florida. He graduated last year from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala., with a master's degree in agricultural economics.
