Just read that 90% of the IRS and 93% of the EPA are considered non-essential employees. My question is why do those positions even exist if they are non-essential? Just think how quick we would reel in government spending if we didn't have non-essential jobs. Do you have non-essential job positions on your golf course? I sure don't.

Unfortunately, I don't think any of them considered themselves non-essential and I don't even think they had their staff impacted. I would say the non-essentials in congress would be in the high 90% range for me and that includes both parties!

Those 10% essential employees retained at the IRS must be the ones trained to target conservative/tea party groups.
EPA?? Surprised 7% are considered essential.

What will end the stalemate and it will be soon will be the results of the shutdown in DC itself. When the trash isn't picked up and the town starts to stink, they will rapidly either come to an agreement on something or the conservatives will have to cave. The stench of garbage and uncleaned restrooms will save the day!

Some congress people have furloughed some of their staffs while others are saying their staffs are essential and continuing to pay them all. I have seen both R's and D's do this.

When you talk about garbage and other items like that in DC, aren't those items handled by the City of Washington and not federal employees? Well except for the janitorial staffs inside buildings?

Both sides are to blame for this mess, but you know me, I blame more on the right, just because they do not want this president to be successful at anything especially the health care issue in my opinion.

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) told a local television station that she would not be deferring her pay during the government shutdown, as some other members have done.

"I need my paycheck. That's the bottom line," Ellmers told WTVD in Raleigh, N.C. "I understand that there may be some other members who are deferring their paychecks, and I think that's admirable. I'm not in that position."

According to Ellmers's official website, she was a registered nurse for 21 years before being elected to Congress. Her husband Brent, the website says, is a general surgeon.

Democratic Rep. G.K. Butterfield also told WTVD that he wouldn't be deferring his pay. "I don't think there should be a shutdown," he said. "I didn't create the shutdown."

If they were to defer their pay they may as well go home to their districts. They don't want to have to do that, either.
