What methods of "adjusting" staff attitudes are being used? Seems this season I have all the complainers...And they all worked here last season, with no problems...

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know what your course policy is on employee's playing golf but I implemented a crew golf day. Only those who are performing to expectations can participate. We play other courses as well. Not only did the attitudes improve but I used this as a tool to teach them what we do from a players perspective. When we play they have assignments to find both good/bad maintenance practices.

Put a hand grenade on the counter with a number 1 attached to the pin with a sign saying, complaint department, please take a number.

Maybe consider having a crew meeting to address complaints.

It happens everywhere especially a few weeks after the kids come back and the job they had for two years becomes boring and the same every day.

We try to keep the morning meetings upbeat and allow for feedback from the employees. We have a few cookouts per year and last year had our first family day where the adults and students invited their spouse or parents for lunch.

We fire any negative regular staff when applicable or if a seasonal we just tell them at the end of the season we are parting ways and next year you should find a new job. Never easy but it improves the attitude of the crew to not have the biggest complainers around. Life is too short and we work to much to deal with people like that.

Wisconsin is a "at will" state, you work at our will. We can fire you at any time for any reason as long as we are not discriminating against you. Stupidity, bad attitudes and slacker-ism is not a protected status.

I try and make each staff member feel important. I make them feel important right in front of the other staff members in the morning. If a guy has a good day weed eating I make sure he knows about it. Also think about weed eating with them on occasion. My employees like what we do because they know I am never to good to do what they do. Lead by example and productivity and attitude will change very quickly. Letting the worse seed go sometimes will make the rest open their eyes. Never get relaxed or the staff will sense that change and react to it.
