From August 19–21, I had the privilege of attending the Marriott GolfCON 2025 in Nashville, Tenn., accompanying Katrin Wolfe (GCSAA’s Mid-Atlantic field staff representative). This event provided an excellent platform for two full days of networking and collaboration with Marriott Golf leaders. The atmosphere was highly engaging, with conversations centered on innovation, leadership and the future of golf course operations.
One of the highlights of the conference was Katrin’s participation in leading a panel discussion with several key industry partners. The panel generated meaningful dialogue around current challenges and opportunities in the golf industry, particularly in areas of sustainability and operational excellence. It was impressive to see the level of engagement from attendees and the strong focus on collaboration to move the industry forward.
In addition to the meetings, we had the opportunity to enjoy a round of golf at Gaylord Springs Golf Links. I played alongside Assistant Superintendent Chris Reavis and was introduced to Superintendent Chris Young, CGCS. Both were great to connect with, and the course itself was in outstanding condition—truly a testament to the quality of maintenance and care put into the facility.
A consistent theme throughout Marriott GolfCON was the acknowledgment of the critical role GCSAA plays in advancing sustainability and environmental initiatives within the industry. It was encouraging to see Marriott leaders recognize the importance of these efforts and their alignment with the future of golf course management. The event not only strengthened professional connections but also reinforced the shared commitment to sustainable practices across the industry.
